Have stayed here a number of times on business. This hotel is average in all things. The food is ok however the menu has not changed in the last 3 months?

The rooms I have stayed in have all been clean and tidy. I have had no noise issues as I always request a room in the quieter part of the hotel.

The market traders and bin men seem to start at about 06:00

Breakfast has always been nice however, If it was my money I would be loathed to pay the money.

We stayed here for one night in August following a wedding. First impressions were good as we approached through the lovely courtyard area and staff were friendly on arrival. Sadly the rest of the stay failed to live up to this. Our room looked a bit dated, and did not live up to the standard of our (much cheaper) Travel Inn of the previous night either in decoration or comfort. Positioning of the rooms is the main problem the hotel faces. Our room looked onto the lovely courtyard, however we couldn't have our window open in the heat of summer because of the noise from the courtyard. The bride and groom had the best suite in the hotel, but were kept awake until 5am on their wedding night by drunken antics of the locals in the highstreet, and were then awoken an hour later by market traders setting up. Breakfast was strictly average for the money, and bizarrely our cooked breakfasts were plonked in front of us when we were only two mouthfuls into our cereal! We had numerous other niggles, such as the bride and groom's luggage going missing, but these were particular to our stay. Strictly speaking the Angel isn't a bad hotel, but for the money I expect an awful lot more, at least that it tries to match the standard of a motorway Travel Inn!!

A nice central location. I was not disturbed by any noise from the high street. the hotel has a lovely court yard to sit in. the bedrooms are very clean and have everything you need. the bed spreads look a bit dated (flowery). The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great.

Somewhat expensive but comfortable hotel in the centre of the town. Be aware that the hotel has two halves - a older building at the front and a more modern part at the back.

I stayed in the back half and was very happy with the room. They are big (by European standards), reasonably quiet and well designed - no odd shaped bathrooms, no winding halls or staircases, no squeaky floorboards and no musty rising-damp smell. My photos are of rooms in the back area.

The front, historic, part seems of poorer quality from reports that I have heard but I have not stayed there. Also some front rooms may face onto the main street which can get quite noisy.

Service was fine. No problem with bed, hot water, cupboard space etc etc... The rooms all have free wifi which was very welcome.

It is true that they hold wedding receptions and such like here - so the dining room and courtyard areas can be crowded and noisy on some nights. My room had double-glazed windows and I had no real problem with the noise.

If you have to stay in Chippenham, you won't suffer from staying here. Whether you suffer from staying in Chippenham is another matter! Frankly, I moved up to Bath as soon as I could...
