Description: The Conqueror Inn, Eastclose Hotels principal restaurant serves traditional British and European cuisine. Blending Georgian opulence with a cool, contemporary twist. Not simply a comfortable, welcoming place to stay, we are a destination for discerning diners and a unique venue for weddings and special celebrations. Set in 18 acres of beautiful parkland, this boutique hotel has long provided a place of relaxation and inspiration for guests. In fact one of them, author Lewis Carroll, is rumoured to have created his tales of a certain young Alice after hearing of her adventures in the enchanting walled garden, croquet lawn and under the giant beech tree.

“Delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

An odd sort of place with a modern pub restaurant attached to a lovely old country hotel.
Barn style in interior, quite open plan.
Excellent service with delicious food. The skrie cod was just delightful. Presentation was very visual and appealing. The barman needed a bit of training as he didn't know what brands are whisky and also what a rusty nail was. I should have asked for a discount due to my training skills!! The wine list is quite expensive but the basic sauvignon blanc was very good.

Glad to read you enjoyed the food and sorry the barman didn't know what a rusty nail was, its not a commonly requested drink and I think the last time I bought a bottle of Drambuie for a bar was over 5 years ago. Although slow moving we do still stock it.
Im sorry you think our wines are expensive pouring wines are £15.50 per bottle £3.10 of that is VAT and our wine suppliers do not sell cheap wines, they start at around £5. Whilst we do have wines in excess of £30 our profit mark up policy is a set amount per bottle and not a % mark up like most licensed premises, so the more you spend on a bottle, the better value it is.
Sorry to point this out but we think its a great way of providing excellent quality and value for money.
We thought we had it right but take your comments on board.

“Nice evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

We had a table for two from Table Pouncer.

We were sat right next to another table for two which had a couple sitting on. It was slightly awkward as they were clearly on a first date and they could hear everything my friend and I were saying and we could hear everything they were saying. There weren’t too many tables in the restaurant so I don’t know why we couldn’t have been put somewhere else.

We both had sirloin steak, a soft drink and desert. I ordered a blue steak, which was slightly overcooked but it was fine to eat. My friend’s well done steak was very chewy so she didn’t eat much. The sides were lovely, tasty and hot. We had sticky toffee pud for desert which was divine! Such a generous portion and very tasty.

It was a lovely evening for a catch up.

Thanks for your review.
Where steaks are concerned satisfying customers is always difficult, interestingly you both had sirloin which we will have cut when you ordered from the same joint and indeed right next to each other.
One blue and one well done, the well done one was chewy the blue was fine to eat.
Point prooved exactly! Its not the meat at fault or indeed the chefs ability, its the guests cooking desire that is seldom considered!
Of course everybody is welcome to request their steak cooked as they like but......

“Outstanding snack lunch - fantastic breads”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014 via mobile

The old Saddle Bar at The East Close Hotel - see accompanying photo - used to be a twice weekly haunt of one of our party several decades ago. It was therefore of great interest to drop in and see the modern take. We only wanted a lunchtime snack and were well catered for with the sandwich selection, all of which were a very reasonable £4.95. We had a smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber and a cheddar cheese and chutney sandwich. These were as near to perfect as one could get with the granary and white bloomer bread respectively being wonderfully fresh. They came with a small crisp salad - I loved the gherkin and beetroot - and some tasty dorito-style crisps. We sat in some comfortable brown leather settees between the busy hotel reception - a wedding party was checking in - and the bar. The location on the edge of The New Forest right alongside the A35 is just right and if the restaurant is as good as the snacks it too is well worth a stop.

Glad you had a good experience, slightly different to the old saddle room days but equally enjoyable!
