“Friendly pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

The choice of beers were good. We had our meal served in the bar area as we had gone to watch rugby on the numerous tv screens they had. The bar staff were very friendly and on seeing our glasses empty offered to refill them without us leaving the table so we could carry on watching the rugby. Although we only had fish and chips, the meal was served very hot and presented well. Not a scrap of food was left, that's how much we enjoyed it. Will visit again. Highly recommend.

“Tasteless Takeaway”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We had high hopes for the Thai takeaway having recently ordered excellent food from other nearby establishments offering Thai cuisine. Unfortunately there seemed to be little fish in the fish cakes which had been deep fried until they were thin and rubbery. The chicken satay was dry and the main courses were bland at best.
Disappointed unfortunately, so we will return to the other local takeaways.
Landlord is an acquired taste!

“Very dissapointed..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We visited the Nelson last night as a large group for my birthday - there was 11 of us in total and one of the guests was a wheelchair user. We pre-booked the table (a week in advance) and specifically asked re wheelchair access and were assurred that the restuarant was accessible.
Although the restuarant is accessible the "disabled" toilet was used as a store room and we had to ask for fire extinguishers, hoovers, wine etc to be removed so it could actually be used. Although the manager was apologetic he stated that this is "inevitable". The food was nice but some of it was cold and unfortunately the upset caused by this incident tarnished the evening. I have previously eaten at this restuarant and enjoyed it, but will not be returning.
For anyone planning a visit who has disabilities, the access to the disabled toilet is only by going outside and does have a step to it. I was extremely disappointed and have advised the manager as such... my concern is that if a customer specifically asks re disability access and is advised this is not a problem then the provision should be there. I also question as to whether customers are aware that wine is being stored in the toilet.....

“Friendly pub with good food....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

What a lovely pub. I have been there a few times this summer/autumn/winter and the entertainment is good and the food is excellent. Lovely sunday lunch with the family. Good atmosphere and kid friendly.
