My boyfriend and I stayed in the Runnymede on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. The exterior of the hotel is the biggest drawback, but i was prepared for this after reading other reviews. Inside is a vast improvement!
Staff are excellent (although a few struggle with English!), and we were allowed to check-in a few hours early.
The rooms are TINY (it reminded us of a cabin on a ship!), very compact, and we had a view of the M25. They are, however, clean, and have all the amenities you would expect (including a mini-bar kit-kat for £1.50!).
We had a massage each in the spa, which was wonderful. Excellent facilities, and very pleasant staff. The pool is nice, although there is only a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi in the main area (plunge pools in changing rooms).
We had dinner in the Leftbank restaurant, which was very good, although we paid a lot because we didnt have dessert and coffee (£28 for 2 courses, £29.95 for the full). Service was outstanding. Lunch in the Charlie Bells restaurant was ok, although it was packed and some others waited a long time to be served. Food is expensive for what it is.
The hotel was very noisy at night, LOTS of children (half term) who were mostly running around, knocking on room doors, or shouting down the corridor at 1am.
Breakfast was very good, they had put extra tables in the lounge area to cope with extra guests. Again, service was excellent.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but I wouldn't pay the same again (£170 a night), and I wouldn't recommend it to couples looking for a romantic stay, certainly not during school breaks.
