I said I'd carry my own bag to my room - but "had" to be shown to my room (receptionist gave my room key directly to the "bag boy")he then led the way - told me which was the kettle, which was the wardrobe, which was the bathroom - all angling for a tip - I stayed in room 41 - over £100+ per night
Room = Tiny and very hot, too hot to get a decent nights sleep (and heating wasn't on) bathroom smaller than a shed and had a lower roof too. My car has more carpet than the bathroom.
Bed was old and matress had seen better days - no support.
Breakfast was £15, toast was stone cold rounds (only toasted on 1 side) There were spiders on the wall and on the table at breakfast & Service took an age.
Coffee was only like warm.
Has potential to be a good hotel - get rid of the pretenciousness and concentrate on customer needs rather than Pomp. Get rid of the dated old rooms and sort the heating out. Will not use again.

I stayed at the Great Fosters for 3 nights in February 2007 while on a business trip to Egham. The hotel was booked through my company, so our negotiated corporate rate may beat the rack rates slightly. . . regardless, it was a great value considering that properties of this caliber could easily cost double the 130 pounds or so per night that I paid.

In the interest of brevity, I will point out the highlights:

1.) We stayed in the part of the hotel called the cloisters. The rooms are newer and more modern, slightly bigger, and in my opinion, the best on the property outside of the pricey but lavish historic rooms. The heavy wood doors, wrought iron door handles and hardware, deep oversized porcelain bathtubs, high end bath fixtures, Bang and Olufsen televisions and stereos. . . all are well thought out, understated, and classic. The rooms in the main house are much older, which is certainly desirable, but as a result the carpets and wall fabrics could use some care.

2.) Breakfast - fabulous. Fresh fruits, whiskey porridge, full english breakfast. MUCH better than most hotel breakfasts! Charming dining room as well, intimate and well done.

3.) Service - I have a crush on one of the desk girls, quite a pretty girl and when she says "Can I help" it makes her all the cuter. Nonetheless, the service was great. . . . helpful, friendly, and highly accommodating.

4.) The gardens - an amazing english garden, well groomed, relaxing, and inspiring.

5.) Close to Windsor - A quick taxi ride gets you to the heart of Windsor, which is well worth the trip. Windsor castle is amazing, and the whole town is worth spending a day noodling around!

6.) The sitting room in the entry way - Amazing old fireplace. The perfect place to have drinks, which you can bring from the bar to here for cozy conversation.

I look forward to another visit, when in the Egham area no other hotel will ever earn my business. I could stay here for nights on end and truly feel at home.

Great Fosters

My partner and I searched the internet for a wedding venue that would tick all the boxes, of which we had many. We really hit the jackpot when we came across Great Fosters. I fell in love with the hotel as soon as we pulled into the driveway on our very first visit.

The hotel staff were exceptional and could not do enough to assist with our wedding preparations and room bookings in the lead up to the wedding.

Our wedding day itself can only be described as a fairytale. Our guests commented on the 'wow factor' of the hotel on driving up the drive and once inside the hotel doesn't disappoint.

We held our civil ceremony and reception at the hotel and therefore had the place almost entirely to ourselves. The staff were fantastic, although I must admit we hardly noticed they were there as the whole day ran so wonderfully smoothly.

The food was outstanding. We would definately recommend the beef wellington from the wedding menu! We also stayed for the first night of our honeymoon and took the opportunity to eat in the Oak Room for dinner. I had a lamb main course which melted in the mouth.

Our wedding night was spent in the Queen Anne Suite which was simply perfect for the occasion. It is a beautiful, traditional suite with all the modern luxuries.

My parents stayed in the Italian Room which is fabulous and would definately have been my second choice!

I cannot praise this hotel/wedding venue more highly. They helped create the wedding of our dreams and a fabulous day for all of our guests.

I certainly look forward to staying again soon and wish all of you who decide to visit, a wonderful time.

We booked this as a last minute getaway, our own early new years eve ( the day before). We booked the Tapestry room which was just beautiful, huge room with loads of character. Bathroom was lovely with free-standing bath, separate double shower and separate wc. We took our 4 year old son with us, the hotel provided a super 'z' bed for him, ready made up and with his own bath towels. Our bed was massive whith the most amazingly soft pillows, probably the best bed in a hotel we have come across. Dinner was superb, service was excellent and we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We will be going back - soon!
