“Very Pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2009

We stayed at this Savill Court for one night recently and were very impressed with the overall quality and the staff. The hotel is very classic, the rooms are bright, clean and have everything a traveler might need (comfy bed, decent shower, bathrobes, iron). The breakfast was excellent too, a great selection (fruit, cereals, cold meats, pastries, full English, smoked kippers & scrambled eggs etc). It is in a good location, just a short walk from the Windsor Great Park. We ate in the hotels Orchid Restaurant which was also very good. The following morning we strolled around the Hotels grounds which took about 15 minutes which was also very pleasant. All in all, a very enjoyable short break

I have booked AND PAID for two double rooms about 2-3 months in advanced. As the hotel and its surroundings seemed very impressive, we were really looking forward to our stay. On our arrival however, we have been advised that there are several weddings going on at the moment, so our rooms are occupied and they even have a full house. I was absolutely furious that they sold the rooms I have already paid for. Needless to say that they must have got a higher price for them, as I grabbed the rooms in a special promotion.

They offered us a transfer to another hotel: one of them would have been in Ascot (i.e. another 20 miles drive) while the other one wanted to give us four single rooms (!!!) as "this way the replacement hotel can match our prices". Again, I was furious, because them matching their prices between themselves is really not my problem, is it?!

I appreciate that being halfway through my pregnancy might make me a bit fussy sometimes, but I do believe that this treatment is completely unacceptable, even without a bump. Oh, yes... Forgot to mention that we got four poxy orange juices as complimentary drinks at the bar.

Firstly we did not know this area. We drove up and down Wyck Lane. No mobile coverage so could not phone hotel for directions. Finally found it. It is accessed off Bishops Gate Road NOT Wyck Lane.

Our room was TINY. It was suposed to be a standard double room. It was more a modest single room. The small window looked out across a roof to another wall. You had to edge past the bottom of the bed sideways. This presented a problem with moving luggage around. It was so small and claustrophobic we had to take turns in the room to pack/unpack and so on. The grounds are impressive but standard double rooms are dreadful.

We had a wonderful experience at Savill Court. Everyone and everything was perfect. We where so grateful to all the staff who looked after us and for going that extra mile on my Birthday. They got me a cake on the day which was lovely and really made my day.

This could have been a difficult review to write. For the first day Savill Court fell into a 'safe mediocrity'; not worthy of criticism, but lacking the 'va va voom' to praise it. It is a very large hotel and as such everything came over a little bit impersonal. But, read on - it got better.

We booked a 3 day chill break and upgraded to a 'feature room'. After an exhausting work schedule we just wanted to relax. On arrival we doubled checked that we had a 'feature room' at reception with a girl who we found very difficult to understand, but we when we got to our room it could only be described as a 'feature-less room'. Back to reception and this time the manager re-allocated us one of their 4 poster bed rooms (240).

240 was clean, quite roomy with nice views and good supplies of tea and coffee. It had a bit of a small en-suite, a good bed, not-so-good pillows, but overall was good value. Nothing was too much trouble for the housekeeping staff.

The hotel is located amongst rambling mansions now owned mainly by Russians. The staff in the bar and restaurant reflected this and we felt they were a little frosty, although always polite, on the first day. We were wrong; by the third night, the staff really opened up and were very amusing and friendly despite the fact they had to deal with three weddings while were there.

The weddings didn't interfere with our stay at all as the Savill is so huge. In fact quite the opposite. The guests all seemed to be very relaxed and friendly and I even bumped into a long-lost cousin from the north at one of them! If you are planning a wedding there, I think it will work well no matter how big or small as most of the staff seemed to really enjoy them and were very professional at all times. It is clearly an excellent venue for a conference too.

We didn't try the spa treatments, but used the pool, tub and steam room every day - great.

The one lift in the main part of the house where our room was packed up soon after we arrived, but after the good food and wine in the restaurant (fish and chips was the best) we needed the exercise. Breakfast was much better than most hotels - the coffee, and the ham on the buffet, were excellent.

The longer we stayed the more at home we felt.

It was nice to stay somewhere where all the staff are all so pleasant and well mannerd. It al also nice and refreshing to have my children treated with respect. I have had some issues with this in the past but here the staff made them feel so welcome and realy made an effore. This to me made Savill Court second to non.
