“A must do in Fowey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

We took our elderly mum here for afternoon tea on her 82nd birthday and it was beautiful. Lovely setting and if you got kids and dogs it's ideal as both are made very welcome. All the staff were great and very welcoming and even took the time out to write 'Happy Birthday' in chocolate around her scone plate. A lovely touch. It's a beautiful building too with lots of different rooms to relax in and look around. 10/10. Would highly recommend and would definitely return if in the area again.

We decided to celebrate our anniversary at Fowey Hall, and were delighted with the whole experience. The staff were attentive and charming, and the meal was of excellent quality at a very reasonable cost.

We will definitely be returning.

Dear Anna

Thank you for choosing Fowey Hall to celebrate your wedding anniversary, we really enjoyed looking after you. James our chef loves cooking Sunday lunch, he ensures that we use local produce, the roast Sirloin is Cornish Ruby Red and comes from our local butcher in Tywardeath.

Please come back and see us again soon.

This is our second trip to Fowey Hall and yet again we had a lovely time. When you've got kids and you still want to stay somewhere that gives you your own time as well as great facilities for the family this is the place. The staff are incredibly friendly, accommodating and professional which makes this place work so well. Thank you for making our holiday so fantastic! We'll be back next year.

Full of tradition and historical charm, the Fowey Hall Hotel is a great (if moderately expensive) place to bring your family. Young families (under 10's) especially are well catered for and welcomed. Set at the top of the hill on the West side of the river, the hotel is only a short walk from the village, although the steep descent works both ways, so take a yak and a team of Sherpas for the return...!
Lots of areas to lounge around, relax, and staff are very happy to bring orders of coffees / teas / drinks to just about any part of the hotel or grounds.
Evening meals were very enjoyable and the whole experience is made even better by hugely helpful, attentive and pleasant staff. Quality of food is good and while perhaps not quite Michelin star standard - it's to a very high level.
Rooms are, like the rest of the hotel, full of ageing furniture and lacking in some modern conveniences. Nevertheless, they have charm and we found enough comfort in our adjoining family rooms.
Perhaps not somewhere we'd stay for a full week, but there's easily enough at the Fowey Hall Hotel to make a great 2-3 night mini break.

Dear Jonathan

It was a pleasure to look after you and your family, it sounds as though you enjoyed your visit to the hotel and to Fowey (even with the walk back up the hill!). Thank you for your feedback, we work very hard to get that balance right between being friendly and helpful as well as delivering quality but without being to formal.

I hope to welcome you and your family back to Fowey Hall, we do offer some great long weekend breaks throughout the Autumn and Winter.

Warm regards.

Chris Williams.

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights to include breakfast and dinner on 2 of the nights. As soon as we walked into the hotel we were greeted by staff. The food was amazing! Shame I'm pregnant as I couldn't sample the wine selection which was diverse. Staff had good knowledge of drinks and food. All food is locally sourced and you could tell from the taste. Really liked the small touches, lit candles at dinner table, white table cloths, attentive staff, did not pounce on you as soon as you've finished your mains hounding you for desserts, left a good time between courses

Dear Hanwool

Thank you for your great review, it sounds as though you enjoyed your stay at the hotel and loved eating in our restaurant, James (our chef) has some great local suppliers that bring us the best Cornish ingredients daily. Do come back and see us again, we are a very family orientated hotel with a free crèche which you may find useful in the coming months!

Best wishes for your new arrival.

This place is a little gem, the views are stunning, the service is friendly and the Hotel is gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised by this Hotel as it was a late booking made through Mr & Mrs Smith. The environment is so relaxed but grand at the same time. We had super weather which is always a bonus so was able to fully appreciate the outside space for drinks. Fowey is a beautiful spot and one I return to time after time so to find somewhere so fabulous to stay is wonderful. We had dinner in the restaurant Saturday night of which was top notch; the onion bread was very special indeed. The staff were lovely and welcoming, I took a day trip to Newquay and visited the Headland Hotel for lunch, this place was awful and just made our spot in Fowey all the more amazing, please do not go to Headland. If you’re in two minds about booking this place, go on do it, you won’t be disappointed. We never went to the Spa so can’t comment but I'm sure it’s wonderful. Thanks for making our two nights stay special; the fire burning of an evening even though in July was a lovely touch whilst finishing off our glass of bubbles.

Room Tip: My Room was Joseph - lovely - bathroom was great.

Dear Just4Donna

Thank you for your great review on Tripadvisor and for choosing Fowey Hall when you visited Fowey. I agree with you that the town is lovely, I think what makes it so special is that it is still a working town, with boat yards, a small fishing fleet, mussel farm and clay works as well traditional tea rooms, pubs and shops etc for visitors. This gives a very "real" feeling to Fowey.

Now that you have found us, I look forward to welcoming you back to Fowey Hall soon.

Warm regards.

Having managed Fowey Hall 20 years ago I was intrigued to see what changes there were to the place. It was difficult to recognise parts of the building as it had been lovingly restored & an extra wing added. The staff we encountered were friendly & had a real pride in the building. The views across Fowey are truly awesome. The reason I have only given 4* was that everywhere was strewn with dirty dishes & table tops encrusted with crumbs & water marks on the glass surfaces, no attempt was made to clean this whilst we were there.

Dear Phil

Thank you for your feedback following your recent visit with us, I'm sorry I didn't get the opportunity to have a chat with you it would have been interesting to compare notes after 20 years. It sounds as though you enjoyed yourselves (with the exception of some of the tables being left untidy which I will run through with Martin our restaurant manager) we have now completed a full refurbishment of the bedrooms and public areas.

When you visit again please let me know so that I can introduce myself and perhaps show you around.

Chris Williams.
