“Friendly and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014 via mobile

Curiously secluded despite being close to the main road. Easily seen and found down the end of a narrow lane (Northside - warning for satnav users - there are two "Northside"s. The hotel is on the north side of the main road, not the other side of the road, just aim to get around the back).

Very friendly and helpful staff. The room I was in was on the front of the hotel and was clean with a splendid bathroom (marble tiled and modern shower). Blackout blind on the side window was a thoughtful touch as there are bright bluish flood lights illuminating the outside. I overlooked the A1 and could clearly see the Angel of the North just down the road.

The windows kept most of the road noise out. Light sleepers might like to consider asking for a room facing the back. I felt the mattress was a little in the hard side. A bedside lamp would have been nice as an alternative to the main room lights.

Breakfast was cooked to order (allow a few minutes) and was well presented with nicely browned mushrooms, bacon, tomato and sausage.

I had red snapper with jambalaya for dinner which was tasty with a generous portion of fish. All the portions are generous!

Pudding was a wonderfully tasty sticky toffee pudding with custard - very hot.

The beer (Blast) was excellent.

Very good value and I will stay again when in the area.

We have just returned home from The Bowes Incline Hotel. We go there when visiting my son who is at Newcastle University. Once again a brilliant experience! We just love this hotel for so many reasons. It is perfect in every way with its lovely accommodation and gorgeous food!
The staff remember us every time we go there and even give us the same room each time we stay which is so nice!
My son is now in his final year at the university but luckily he has decided that when he finishes he is going to remain in Newcastle which means that we can continue to have many more stays at our favourite hotel!
A genuine thank you to Colin, Linda and the rest of the staff! See you soon!

My husband and i stopped at this hotel for a quiet night away. Lovely staff, comfy rooms, but what i loved about this hotel was their fantastic dinner menu. It was gorgeous and the price was really reasonable for what you get. Thankyou Bowes for a lovely stay.

Found by accident when looking for a hotel in the Durham area. Usually frequent Premier Inn but at an advertised price of £75 per night B&B this was a good alternative based on the reviews. Rang up to book two nights to be told the price was £65 per night B&B - what a result. Bit tricky to find as the satnav takes you into an housing estate so use Northside or Bowes Equestrian Centre. Plenty of parking. Warm welcome on arrival & everything explained. Room was large, clean and airy with a wall mounted TV with freeview. Bathroom had a walk in shower with excellent water pressure. Bed comfy and large. Room was at the back of the premises and although the view across the valley was excellent the nearby A road could be heard with the window open (not a critiscm just an observation). Had evening meal in the pub and the menu was very extensive, not cheap but where is these days. The portions arrived and they were massive, tasty and seemed to be home cooked. Extremely good value for the price. The pub was busy and the atmosphere good. Wide range of beers, winers and spirits. Staff friendly and helpful and plenty of table to sit at. A most enjoyable experience. Breakfast at weekends is 8am to 9.30am and I ordered a full english after having cereal, which was laid out on a nearby table with plenty of choice. Again home cooked and did not disapoint, the portions lasted me all day and came with toast and butter. There was also lighter options such as scrambled egg and salmon and poached eggs. Basically you could have whatever you asked for off the breakfast menu. The staff even asked if we wanted more food...... Overall a place that is well worth the visit and is more homely than a Travel Inn. It had a very unique country feel and the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our two night stay. There is even a country lane to have a good walk after gourging on the food!!!. Would strongly recommend the Bowes Incline and at the prices paid you just cant go wrong. Will definately stay there again and recommend to friends and family. If I could make one point and that is that there was no decaff tea / coffee in the room. Well done to all the staff.

Room Tip: All roms on one corridor but if you want to sleep with a window open ask for the car park side

My husband and i stayed here for the great north run. We were joined by my inlaws and had a very good stay. The hotel was very friendly and the rooms were very clean. Food portions were amazing I couldn't even finish but I enjoyed my meal very much. We are hoping to go back next year for great north run.
