“Brilliant location if a little lacking in character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I stayed here one night recently. The deal for a single Sunday night was excellent. The location is stunning rivalling the Hyatt in Sydney for a room view of the original iconic river bridge and the city and galleries are all very close. We didn't use many of the facilities so can't comment all I would say is that the bar/reception area whilst typically Hilton seemed to lack more character or atmosphere than most. The room was typically clean and well appointed.

I stayed here with a colleague from the USA, and to be honest, expected a lot more from a Hilton hotel. The hotel itself if in a very handy position, just 5-minutes from Quayside and a brief walk or cab ride from the train station. The facade is perfectly fine, and the lobby looks typically 'Hiltonian' with marble everywhere and large glass walls. The staff were friendly enough, but not very helpful. For a start, when my colleague and I got to our room, we had been given one bed instead of the two we had asked for. We went to ask for this to be rectified but were told that the hotel was fully booked. They did bring a fold-down bed, but it was very uncomfortable. On the second night, we were moved to a new room, this one having the required two beds -- or, should I say, one bed and one sofabed with so many missing slats it was rather like sleeping in a bucket. Must uncomfortable again. This was not helped by the fact that the ceiling was leaking from the air conditioning unit, meaning a continuous 'dripping' sound kept me awake all night. I did mention all of this to the staff, but no discount was offered, or any form of compensation (free drink, free internet, etc. might have been nice). Anyway, I certainly won't be staying here again. Shame as it looks nice and is in a perfect position.

For a Hilton hotel the room was not up to standard. The staff on check in were nice but not very helpful.Breakfast was good but the staff were rushed with everything.Overall this hotel needs to put Hilton above other Hotels but in this case have not

I used to stay at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead regularly but hadn't been for a while. I stayed there at the end of July and was very disappointed with the service. It started with a ten minute queue to check in. Four desks, only one manned. Several staff walked past and must have seen the queue, which stretched across reception almost to the front door, but nobody thought to open a second desk.

Room was OK, although it didn't have much of a view.

Service was also poor at breakfast the following morning. The restaurant was only about half full, but after 20 minutes (and half way through breakfast) I had to ask for tea and coffee. When they arrived they were plonked on the table without a smile or a word, and then I had to steal two cups from an adjacent table. And I'm not sure what the "scrambled egg" was made from, but I couldn't detect any taste of eggs.

For the entire duration of my stay I never saw a member of staff smile. I don't know what's happened to this hotel; it used to be a pleasure to stay there but after this experience I won't be returning.

This Hotel was very good and all the staff were excellent and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. The position of the Hotel in Newcastle is excellent with great views of the city. You can walk to all the city sites straight out of the hotel.

Having stayed here on numerous occasions, this hotel ticks all the boxes, location, cost, facilities but the crown in the jewel is the executive lounge. The hospitality of the staff in the executive lounge are what makes this a truly remarkable place to stay whilst on business. The staff that are worth that extra mention are Kath and Magdelana who always have a warm welcome for you.

Disappointed that spirits have been withdrawn from executive lounge bar, reason given was abuse by guests paying for executive rooms at weekend.
If that's the case, why not make lounge exclusively card holders only (diamond and gold card holders only) that means best customers are not discriminated against ....btw Jeanette has really improved guest experience here, this review isn't a reflection of her standards.
