“Always nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

A lovely pub with many fond memories being brought in as a child by my parents for sunday dinners. Recently refrubished and smart. Quaolity food with some quality prices attached but thats what you should expect for the nice, fresh, plentiful repast.

“Great place to eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Love this place as there is always something on the menu to suit everyone from traditional to something a bit different, nice, warm, friendly atmosphere and geat staff.
There were 10 of us on last visit, however a couple of us had a new item which wasnt the best but they remedied the problem and we would all go back again.
A great night out overall

“Quantity rather than quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We came here to try the Christmas menu at lunchtime.
The food itself was a bit hit and miss: the miniature turkey pie was a tasty starter, and the roast turkey main was extremely generous in size. Too much in fact - the pig in a blanket was a full size sausage rather than a chipolata, and I think only one of us actually finished our food. As to quality, the turkey was moist but lacking in flavour, & the yorkshire pudding was a bit bland too. The roast veg tasted pretty good, although I think they may have been on the go for a while (some were burnt and starting to look a little shrivelled round the edges) but the sprouts were decent. The roast potatoes were disappointing - lots of them but they were quite dry and chalky. The best bit was definitely the dessert - I had the cherry and chocolate torte, which to be honest was more like a very rich, moist chocolate brownie, but tasted lovely. It was MASSIVE - I would rename it "Death by Chocolate"... We didn't get the advertised coffee & mince pies, so the "Christmas" element was lacking.
Although all the wait staff seemed friendly there wasn't any sense of "service" - they just pottered between tables taking orders and delivering food.

I guess £20 for 3 courses isn't horrendous, and neither is the Ravensworth. I just didn't feel any of it was particularly good, and can think of other pubs nearby that I would recommend rather than this one.

“Umpires decision”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

19 of us cricket umpires and wives of various ages and tastes visited the Ravensworth for our 6th Christmas meal which was at the start of the Ravensworths Christmas menu which you can have a choice of 2 or 3 courses well priced at £15.99 or £18.99. We arrived in good time at a gathering point and prompt on 7.30 Kim our waitress for the night advised that our table was ready and we could go anytime so a good start. Drinks were ordered and the food was served with just the correct time in between courses. The choices very much varied and each course had a choice of 4 meals to choose from. I enjoyed the French Onion soup plus the turkey for mains with my wife having the spinach pie and turkey. The main course came with lashings of turkey, none of the black variety hidden under the turkey breast, complete with all the trimmings including an enormous Yorkshire pudding. We couldn't squeeze in a sweet but with some delicate bartering we managed to have two large plates of cheese and biscuits brought in-a nice touch plus coffee which was not on the menu. All in all a very pleasant evening with good food, service and not a complaint but plenty of compliments.
Thanks again especially to the chef, Kim and all the staff. On again for next year.

“Disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Eight of us have just been for xmas lunch, what a disappointing experience. The staff were friendly but the meal wasn't served with any finesse, even though the restaurant was quiet. Most of us had turkey, which was a generous portion, but dry and tasteless. Sprouts and potatoes tasted as if they had been cooked yesterday. We were asked if the meal was ok, and didn't complain as we didn't want to spoil the occasion for my elderly father who enjoyed the experience. The sea bass looked as if it had been microwaved, the sauce came with a skin. We waited a long time for drinks, but extra gravy was forthcoming, and the complementary mince pies arrived after some prompting. Starters and puds we're ok. This is probably the last straw for us after a series of disappointing meals, so it is doubtful if we will eat here again.
