“Value for money at Swalwell Taybarns.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

As a visitor to Gateshead this restaurant was just across the road from where we were staying so decided to give it a go rather than getting lost late at night. So glad we did. Warm friendly greeting on our entrance to the restaurant and after ordering our drinks we were shown the huge choice of food on offer. Everything from Chinese, Indian and pizza's to salads, carvery and barbecue, all freshly cooked in front of you. Restaurant was clean and bright, staff very efficient and eager to help. Food was hot and great value for money maybe not the best food we've ever had but for £20.00 for two courses each plus drinks you cannot go wrong. Just wish Taybarns had a branch here in the south........

“Cheap tasteless food ....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

Visited taybarns ... Just to see what the fuss is about,
I know it's cheap ... But I thought the food would have been a little more appetising ...

When we first went in , the staff were awesome . .. Very attentive ... We paid £5.99 for our food and nearly £3 for a glass that you could refill your pop ...

Good value !! Couldn't believe the price ...

We could sit where we wanted,

We started with the soup... Had tomatoe , not nice at all ...
Had to leave it ... Then I went back & tried different things ...

The Chinese dishes were very greasy and tasted dreadful..

My partner said the meats / grill was lovely .. He had burger, bacon steaks and sausages ... The corn on the cobs were nice.. Overall ....

I tried a few things ..... Which I didn't like much ... BUT
I can't fault the Sunday lunch & the sweet area ....

There were 2 different meats ... Gammon & turkey ... The staff gave me a generous amount when carving it ....
Meat , puddings , mash , peas , stuffing , carrots , cabbage , roast pots , gravy and mint sauce and cranberry ...

I really enjoyed it x x x x x

Then the sweet area .. Mmm the apple pie & custard ... Beautiful and warm ... Next to the pop area was an ice cream machine ... This was nice to ...

I don't mean to be a downer on taybarns ... But you can pay a little extra and other all you can eats are much much better ...

To pay £17 for 2 people to only eat a little bit and fill up on things you don't fancy isn't my cup of tea ...

But at least we tried it ....

I say .... Try it yourself , each to there own taste buds ....

I just would rather pay that little bit extra for taste ...

I normally up load pics from my journeys to places ... But we didn't stay long enough & I wasn't that excited to take any ... :(

“Fantastic food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

After a last minute decision to visit this restaurant i think it was the best decision ever !! ,
I have heard great reviews about this place as my family love going here whenever they are in the area and i can see why,
The variety and quality of food is amazing and cooked fresh ( you can see them making it) and the price cant be grumbled at,
When my pregnant fiance had a bit of a turn ( nothing to do with the place or food) the staff bent over backwards to help making sure she was ok and comfortable.
i would recommend visiting this place again

“Good Value For Money And Plenty Of Variety”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

I was a little worried about going due to the reviews but for what you can you cant really argue or complain. There is plenty of choice, I especially love the carvery section the meat is always juice where as my fiance loves the burgers and curries. Only let down is the plates, bowls etc its usually pretty busy in Taybarns and you sometimes have to hunt through for a clean plate. Desserts were lovely and with refillable soft drinks you can't really go wrong. Good place especially if you have a few picky eaters or have children.

“Expensive for Breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Used this for breakfast as stayed at Premier Inn next door. Too expensive for what was a poor quality offering - only upside was Costa coffee. Staff were friendly and welcoming but at £8.25 not worth the money. I would have went to Frankie & Benny's just up the road if it wasn't for having to cross a busy dual carriageway. Interesting that breakfSt is more expensive than the lunchtime all you can eat buffet, is this driven by the Premier Inn standard pricing rather than Taybarns, definitely not Premier Inn standard for breakfast, sausages were tasty but lukewarm, so were mushrooms and hash browns. Coffee good and there is a choice to have eggs cooked to order. Wouldn't use again.
