“Why only 3*”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

It must be some stupid reason that it is not 4*.
The 1890 doctors grand mansion is the super hotel. It has spectacular views over Morecombe Bay from all front rooms, the spacious.well kept gardens are a delight to relax in.
The dinner from limited menu and breakfast in good restaurant made the exceptional experience.
Quality, clean Edwardian ambiance was a positive. All staff were helpful.
Grange over Sands with its long floral promenade was only 5 mins walk away.
A gym and pool are close to lift and easily accessible.
Will soon be back, but will check position of room.m

Room Tip: I am a light sleeper and was aware of distant train noise after 6 am. I slept better than home.

Hotel is set in large gardens and beautifully located overlooking Morecambe Bay.
Less than 10 minutes walk to town centre and half-an-hour by car to Lake Windermere.
Large room with good-sized flat screen TV, though bedroom carpet threadbare in places and no safe or fridge.
Breakfast food very good - did not take dinner.
All staff friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms overlook gardens and Morecambe Bay.

A wonderful position overlooking the bay . The hotel built in 1896 has kept its charm. Our room did not have the view but was very spacious with a large, light , well -appointed bathroom. The staff were pleasant and helpful

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view if you feel it is important to you

I first visited this hotel 20 years ago at my sister's wedding. 20 years later I have visited again for my mother and father's 50th wedding anniversary. In that time the hotel has changed little. The gardens are immaculate, the view is spectacular, the food is marvellous and staff are well trained and happy to help. They just need a local ale now.

Unfortunately, however in the twenty years, the decor has become tired and a little shabby. Therefore a hotel that could easily be 4 star is only 3 star.

The sitting, views and public rooms were beautiful. We could have been on a "Miss Marple" set. however room 7 had considerable staining on the wallpaper and all furniture showed signs of wear. We were guests at a wedding earlier this month and noted that communication presented problems for the wedding party. This included failure to provide agreed breakfast arrangements for the brides party and the grooms party. Also the bride was asked to vacate her room for cleaning while preparing for the wedding! in spite of this our overall experience was pleasant and memorable. The food and service after the wedding itself was particularly good.

Room Tip: Room 7 was situated at the front of the building and the view was lovely.Very peaceful aspect. A roo...

This was our fourth stay for work and we love the views and the old world charm of the place - big armchairs, cream tea etc. however this time it wasn't quite as good and we felt it was perhaps because the owner who is normally very much in evidence wasn't there. Some of the dishes were cancelled, the fires weren't lit and the drinks and menus took a very long time to arrive although they were really busy. The food in the evening is always so much better than breakfast which is always a bit of a letdown.

14 members of a wine society spent a great weekend at the Netherwood. We were very well looked after by attentive and helpful staff who quickly sorted odd niggles. Dinner was served each night in a beautifully set private dining room . The food was well presented with a good choice and the highlight was dinner accompanied by a wine tasting arranged by the hotel and provided by Dave Unsworth of Unsworths Yard in nearby Cartmel

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bay view
