“Superb and well worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Really not sure what the last reviewer was saying or maybe he was drunk!! because we went and visited the chip shop after visiting the wild duck chip shop and it was superb, the chips were cooked in beef dripping ( i know my dad used to fry) and the fish was as chucnky as you can ever imajine, my missis had the chicken burger which was just massive and fresh chicken none of this processed rubbish, service was just the best real nice chap big guy with no hair but helped us right out on where to go and visit, also if you get your chips from the shop you can sit inside or outside the pub and eat them, the pub is a right little norfolk charmer and we loved it, we are fairl;y local but enjoyed our stay and will def be going back for fish and chips, and just for the record the batter was just amazing and was made fresh as we stood and watched the other guy make it. thanks guys real nice grub

“Not Impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Popped in one evening after reading about it on the net, but was disappointed, the batter just tasted of oil and was too thick and hard on the outside, was over cooked a very dark colour instead of a golden light one, the fish inside was good so we just picked all the fish out and left the batter it just wasn't what i know how battered fish in a chippy is,,also the small/medium fish came in a 'chunk' as opposed to a flat fillet and chips seemed a little soggy no crispness what so ever, its sited a few minutes walk from the Havens site next to a pub.(Turn right coming out from Wild Duck), service was good, not sure what oil they use but i never tasted a batter like that or that dark before.

Sorry to hear you didn't like your visit, the chunk of fish you referred to is a middle and not frozen tails like most offer and the weight of the fish far exceeds the normal weight for the price, we also refuse to cook our fish in oil and use fresh Irish beef dripping every week ensuring the batter is crisp and cooked well and we make our own batter, I do understand this is not for a few and your comments have been well received and thanks for taking the time to air your views it's good to get both sides of the coin so we can try and get it right for everyone

“Brilliant food and exceptional value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

We were staying at haven wild duck and we didn't like their fish and chip prices on site, poor quality too. We went here, just outside the camp maingate and it was probably the best fish and chips we had ever had, great value and fresh!!! Well done the hole plaice and up yours haven!!

“A Great Chippie not far from Haven Wild Duck”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

After reading some reviews on Trip Advisor and some not so good meals at Havens on site Fish & Chip shops we decided to look for an alternative fish & chip shop when staying at Havens Wild Duck site in Belton, Great Yarmouth,

We had read about the Hole Plaice from someone on Trip Advisor and thought we would give it a go.

The food was superb and cooked fresh on order, which always makes it better! The staff (two gentleman (I believe the owners), were great, very friendly).

Overall it was a great meal out.
