I arrived at the Kilbrannan Guest House after a hectic day, and laborious drive across Great Yarmouth. I was greeted by Gary before I had even got out of the car. He showed me where to park, gave me a free park ticket, and even helped me in with my bags.
I was shown into the lounge area and Julie took over explaining about the 5 bedroom Guest House and local area, gave me a cold beer and got me to fill out a short form. She also asked about my dietry needs, useful for those on special diets such as gluten or lactose free diets. When I was ready, she showed me around the various facilities such as the DVD and book library, as well as the dining area. It even has free wi-fi for those travveling on business.
The room is fairly spacious and quaintly decorated in a tasteful manner. There is fresh fruit, fresh flowers, tea and coffee facilities as well as a fridge, TV and DVD. She explained about the toilet system which is an electrical device which makes a bit of a noise when flushing, it might alarm you if you weren't aware of it. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows, not often I say that either! There are plenty of towels, flannels and those little bottles of shampoo etc. The single shower is very clean and functional, though the wash basin is in the bedroom, but that is due to permitted space. There is plenty of space under the sink for any items you wish to hide away, also the wardrobe has plenty of hangers and space for clothes. There are two bedside tables with extra drawer space should that be required. There is a small table with 2 chairs next to the window which has a nice view across a strip of grassland.
I had a comfortable night, there was absolute quiet outside, in fact all I could hear was the alarm clock next to the bed.
I arranged for breakfast at 07:45hrs and Julie greeted me and took my order. This has to be one of the Guest Houses big selling points, There is a vast choice of fresh local produce from sausages, eggs bacon to the locally smoked fish, they even smoke the Salmon especially for this guest house, which I couldn't resist. I must say it was the best I have tasted, on a bed of scrambled egg with chives I think. The toast I ordered was cut by Julie and not the pre-sliced type, so tasted very good, local jams too! gary is an excellent cook. Well worth the five stars. They proudly display many certificates of excellence from various agents. As Gary explained, THis is our life, and we put everything into it", they sure do! My thanks to them both for a very pleasant stay.
One tip worth passing on, don't book this guest house through the booking agent, ring them direct as you will get a far better price.

Guests are always checked in with a welcoming smile and a drink if wanted (or sometimes needed) and the things happening in and around Great Yarmouth are discussed at that time along with restaurant recommendations etc.
Breakfast is one of the areas in which we specialise. All ingredients are of the highest quality and you are quite right, the salmon is smoked especially for us in Great Yarmouth's only remaining smokehouse. We also source our Kippers, Mackerel and Haddock from the same smokehouse.
The ingredient with which the scrambled egg was infused was in fact Samphire which grows naturally on Norfolk marshlands.
You are also correct in suggesting guests call to make a booking especially if you are a single person as we may have a single occupancy rate on offer at certain times of the year.
It was a pleasure to meet you and hopefully you will bring your other half back for a holiday some time.
