We've been back to this place countless times since our first visit, which tells a story in itself.
We have now pretty much been through the entire menu and I can honestly say we've enjoyed pretty much everything we've tried.
There's a mention of portion size in another review. I would say the portions are actually large for Tapas. We normally order a couple of starter type dishes and a couple of mains, with maybe a side of their chunky fries. With some frito mix to nibble on along the way, we have usually felt too full to order any more...even when we've fancied trying extra dishes.
The highlights are the incredibly, the padron peppers, the light baby squid rings with rocket, the garlic and rosemary suckling pig, the salt baked bream and the rib eye steak.
A special mention for this as I am a big fan of steak. The best I've ever had was in the Asturian mountains. I have ordered steak countless times in hotels and resataurants over the years since and have never had steak that comes close....until last week in Ricci's. The rib eye was served well done on the outer 1mm but lovely and pink in the middle, The fats had caremalised perfectly...the seasoned char-grilled taste was superb. I can't believe the menu is changing now that I've found this gem of a dish...apparently to be replaced by rump from Galicia. I can't wait to try that.
The service has always been extremely friendly and professional. One waitress in particular is actually quite funny (as well as being rather beautiful). Weekend nights are very busy...we prefer midweek, but we've found that we prefer to sit at the bar and watch the chefs do their stuff rather than sit at a table anyway. That way, we get dinner AND a show.
I've never felt the need to deviate from the house red wine. My wife reports that the Pinot Griggio is good too.
Halifax now has two or three really good restaurants after many barren years. This place is, without doubt, our favourite now....to the extent that eating here has become something of a habit. I can't see us kicking it any time soon.
