“Cheap and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

I stayed here on Saturday 23rd November in a single room I booked on expedia for £25.

You enter the b&b area through a car park, it's not well lit and I felt quite unsafe when alone there.

The room was on the second floor, it was very small and because of the slanted ceiling you could only stand up in the first couple of feet.

It had a single bed, which I thought was really comfortable and a sky light with an easy to use blind which fully blocked all light out.

There was a small tv and a sink.

There was a toilet opposite the room on the corridor.

There was a wall light as the only light supply (a lamp was provided but it had no bulb in it), the wall light had an energy saving light bulb which had to warm up before it worked properly, so it was very, very dark in the room when I arrived.

There seems to be quite a few rooms and I presume there are permanent lodgers there as there is a kitchen on the same floor for guests to use and it made the entire place smell of oriental food.

There was loud music playing until at least 3am (when I finally managed to sleep), I'm not sure if this was coming from the pub attached.

The place was very clean.

Overall this was a very inexpensive room, it was clean and provided a bed which was all that I wanted.

I would stay again, but I would take a spare light bulb and ear plugs.

I am here tonight ..... I had read other reviews and was a little cautious ... but ....

The room I am in (Room # 1) is fabulous. Obviously recently renovated, and bathroom is disabled accessible. Clean, warm, digital TV. It is adjacent to a pub which offers really cheap evening meals ....

There is also wifi ... Great place - I will defintiely return here when next back in Halifax.

I had previously stayed at another Halifax budget place - for the same price .... and this is heaps better !!! Here, you don't have to pay for parking, & there is wifi, cheap food & a pub on site !

Room Tip: I was in Room # 1 - with ensuite - obviously recently refurbished - but clean and lovely throughout...

This Room Only Guest House is a real mixed bag. Attached to a pub on the busy main road. I had a single room on the top floor, the stairs were lethal, very narrow and windy. If you have any walking difficulties forget it. The room was quite large, single bed under the velux window and right next to the radiator, comfortable enough. Television, couldn't find the buttons, couldn't get it to work and the aerial was the wrong size when I worked it out. Small table with a lamp. Ensuite was huge and brand new but the towel was old, hard and scratchy. The major problem was that when I arrived there were no lights on most of the stairs and the ones that did work didn't stay on very long and whoops you were in the dark. The girl who showed me to my room on the thursday evening said there were no lights but when I went back on friday it was still dark. Luckily I had to go home early and couldn't wait.
Please remember if you do stay here take a kettle, glass, cup as there is nothing, room only was very literal.
Its a great shame because with some care and attention this place could be better.
Sainsburys is a 5 minute walk. McDonalds, Turkish & Italian restaurants also about a 5 minute walk.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the ground floor so you don't do yourself a mischief on the stairs

Thankfully we didn`t stay here but if the bar was anything to go by I`m glad we didn`t ! Looks a nice place from the outside and advertises real ale but, unclean beer glasses, poor tasting beer, cider was flat and not a nice taste. Scruffy place. Avoid !

Ok so bad points ( based only on my room on top floor )

1) No Tv - This can be countered by the Free Wifi if you take your mobile/laptop
2) Shared bathroom & toilets

Good Points

1) Cheap
2) Good Shower
3) Friendly staff
4) Pub downstairs
5) Free parking
6) Great views
7) Comfortable bed

If you want a five star hotel then bl00dy pay for one , if you dont then stop here

Basic accommodation, if you have trouble with stairs this place may trouble you up to the first floor. The stair are fine until the last few steps then they get narrow and steeper. The room was clean, lino flooring I was about the bar area so noise was there but not that bad, as long as the windows were closed. Didn't eat there. Staff were really friendly, no problems with them. Didn't have a drink in the bar as I was shattered. All in all wouldn't book again other than for the reason of it being well priced.

i have stayed here a few times and to begin with i thought it was a great find but the more often i have stayed the worse it has become. Firstly it is not a B&B but a number of rooms next to a pub. There is no breakfast and no one is available if the pub is not open.

The rooms have been done up to a decent standard and the despite being on a road it is quiet and a good location for Halifax.

Some of the rooms have had a few teething problems - hot water and heating not working and the beds are a bit spongy but on the whole they are ok for the price.

The biggest issue is NOISE. As they expand and do more rooms the insulation between rooms is non existent so u can hear the upstairs person going to the toilet etc. Also the front door cannot be shut quietly so last in and first out will wake the whole place up and i mean everyone regardless of what room you are in.

Then there is the pub. Quite nice and quiet but then they just play music at random times and have midweek late parties. You cannot offer accommodation and then play music until 2am!!! If you have kids etc do not stay here (although family rooms are a good size). If you are happy to stay in pub until it shuts you might enjoy it.

With Premier Inn recently opening and doing the same, but better and cheaper

Room Tip: ask when the pub will shut - this is imperative if u want a good nights sleep. I have been then when...
