“Ricci's Place - something for everyone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

I've been to Ricci's Place about ten times now over the past six months, and I've yet to be disappointed by anything except for the desserts. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is all cooked freshly to order but there's no hanging about. The starters and main courses on both the main and daily specials menus have always been great value for money, with loads of choice to suit all tastes and pockets. I particularly like the deep fried calamari starter (lovely crunchy coating, rocket salad and aioli); the squid, chorizo and rocket salad, and for lunch, the chicken sandwich in tomato focaccia which comes with salad and chips for under £6. The ice cream is fantastic, some of the best I have had outside Italy and about 15 flavours to choose from, but the dessert choices in general are few and the portions a bit measly for the price, which is around the £4.50 mark. On the whole though, this is my current local dining venue of choice and I will be going again soon.

“Exciting varied manu with excellent cooking and waiting staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

Ricci's offers a wide range of exciting dishes, mainly Italian but with some Spanish influence and also offers superlative British items like a range of steaks with chips but these are cooked and presented with flair, and a rocket and parmesan salad, and made me want to try them. The menu is one of the most interesting, not to say varied, I've ever seen.

The food is high quality, the pasta is slightly compromised by the need to add 'creamy' sauces, sometimes with added cream which isn't really typically Italian, and succumbs to the English expectation of too much sauce which can overwhelm. I had very fine wild boar ravioli which was a bit swamped for my taste with a tomato sauce, albeit a very good one. The topping of breadcrumbs was a nice touch.

Tomato and mozzarella salad was very good with excellent buffalo mozzarella, although I would have left off the balsamic vinegar. Pan fried sea bass was the best I've ever had. My objections are probably not shared by many so feel free to ignore that bit, or ask for your pasta with burro and salvia, this really is a fine restaurant. The wine list is good and the cooking and serving are impeccable. If you are in Halifax look out for it, you may have to book to be sure to get a table.

“Best eating in Halifax. Just really good clean nice food.”

Went for lunch- now officially the best lunchtime in Halifax. Good enough to go for supper too. Great service, nice surroundings, nice food. Like a Jamies Italian in some ways- but half the price. Fab
