“Lunchtime is as excellent as the evening menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

in the last month I have eaten lunch twice here with a companion , it has been surprisingly busy for a Wednesday lunchtime , which reflects the quality of food and service , today we both had Steak and kidney pie chips and peas , the pie was home produced , and actually had plenty of kidney which is unusual in pub grub . The chips are worth the journey just for the crisp outer and fluffy inner cooked like a chip should be , and not frozen or over fried. I had the beer battered cod on the last visit , it was fresh fish and excellent , my companion had the burger , again superb . The service is excellent and the hosts genial . I will drive out of my way to eat here

“Fantastic welcome - excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

We visited this pub to try out their pub grub. It was superior to the normal pub grub. We tried the homemade burger, which came with chips and salad garnish. The burger was homemade served in a bap and was so tasty. We has a pudding - mine was Date and walnut sponge served with custard ( but was offered Fresh cream or ice cream). My friend had apple crumble that was generous and LOADS of custard ( served separately). The atmopshere was wonderful with the place was pretty busy. This did not affect the service or the food. We returned the following week. I had the turkey/ sage pie with chips and garden peas. It was so tasty, with the puff pastry light and crispy. Would highly recommend, but arrive early as the pub closes at 3.00pm !

“A place that knows how to cook fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

We've been here many time before and have never been disappointed. Managed to get a table for their Friday fish night for the first time yesterday and we were very pleased with our meals. All three of us had something different, but each fish was cooked to perfection, as also were the vegetables. The waitresses never seem to have a bad day - service is always friendly, prompt and professional.

“Excellent food great atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

The maypole is the second pub that you reach when you drive on to Hayling Island , The Friday Night menu has fresh local fish , but we had the 42 day hung rump steak , absolutely excellent , and great value . Good service friendly staff , and the desserts were made on the premises not the usual bought in stuff of the chain restaurants , well worth the visit
