“Tired hotel needs awakening”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Spent two nights here 22/23 Feb, Reception staff very good and efficient. Room clean and spacious, outdated bathroom obviously at the end of the water supply line, very poor shower pressure. Ate in Jocks on first night food no better than ok. Breakfast on first morning in Green Hotel, very pleasant waiting staff even when under pressure at peak period, buffet style breakfast, NO hot plates for cooked breakfast and many items not as warm as intended. Second evening dinner at Windlestrae, first class, well recommendable. Had breakfast on day two at Windlestrae and it was also much better experience with hot plates and food. In general The staff at the Green work very hard. Please dont let standards slip any further

We travelled with friends for a short break. The hotel was lovely. Staff were superb they were so friendly and nothing was any bother in any section of the hotel. Ate in Monty's at the Windlestrae on first night and although food okay it was very uncomfortable table and chairs and we didnt linger long but came back to The Green for a drink. On second night we ate in Basil's and it was lovely and the waiters were very attentive and fun to be around. Visited the spa and beauty room and all were very good. We had got a super cheap deal through hotel connexions but would not grudge paying the normal internet rates for the break as it was so enjoyable. Hotel was also lovely and cosy at all times.

Room Tip: Ask when booking in if any upgrades available

They seem to have too many offers on to keep track of them all, twice we had a lengthy wait to be attended to whilst the intricacies of guests packages were gone over to determine what was & was not included. Food in both Jock's bar & Basil's restaurant was very good except for the cheap fruit juice at breakfast. Spa facilities were very good but hotel is quite shabby in places & more of a 3 star than a 4 star.

Stayed here begining of January when there was a slight flurry of snow! The hotel was warm and cosy and we had a nice large room. It was spotless. We went downstairs to the bar to have a drink. I was draughty, shabby with curtains hanging off the windows, a big let down! We were booked into the restaurant, Basils, it was lovely, the food was first class and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The next day we used the spa facilities across the road at the Windlestrae sister hotel. The pool was lovely and warm and the changing facilities were spotless. There is also a steam room and sauna. The guy on the reception desk there was really nice and helpful. After our spa we had a lunch in the Windlestrae and it was nice, we ate there in the evening in the Italian bistro, however, this was nice but not a patch on the Green Hotel's Basils restaurant. Would definitely recomment this hotel and spa facilities.

Recently stayed here with two young children. After an initial wee blip the stay was fantastic, great room, great food, great staff, no complaints from us. Will be recommending and will stay again. We were a bit concerned that the hotel would not be suitable for the kids but could not fault it. Kids were made very welcome

Very friendly, efficient staff. Bedroom was very large, very comfortable, very well equipped. Bathroom could do with updating but nothing to complain about. Food quality and service excellent. Would stay again and would definitely recommend.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

I booked the Green Hotel for my partner and I for a night away from it all. Very pleasantly surprised. On arrival we were made to feel welcome from the reception staff right from the word go. After check-in we were directed to our room, which was easy to find, and again, a very pleasant surprise. Large and well kept with ample space and storage for a much longer stay.
The en-suite facilities were also excellent. The shower had no loss of pressure which I have suffered in many other hotels.
Once we were settled in, we decided to have a wander around to what was available. A well-stocked shop, Rushes Bar, Basil's restaurant and Backstage were all found very easily. After booking dinner for Basil's, we went to Backstage, their on-site gig venue, to find that the legendary Colin Blunstone was on that evening. Two tickets later, and our whole night was sorted!
We then decided to try out the pool and steam room. Although they are across the roand in the isiter hotel, the Windlestrae, it really is only a five minute walk. Clean changing rooms and well supported gym and fitness facilities. Decent sized pool, and the sauna room was superb, as was the steam room.
Back acroos after an hour or two to ready ourselves for the evening's entertainment. Dinner in Basil's was top quality and very well priced too. I recommend that any non-vegetarians try the pan-fried pigeon breast as a starter. After a well spaced out meal where time between courses was ideal, it was on to Backstage to listen to our evening's musical delight. With a bar right next to the venue, it was very easy to enjoy an aperitif at the interval. The Backstage venue itself is only capable of holding around 100 guests, but that made it all the more intimate.
After a good night's sleep on a fine bed, breakfast was to be had. We were again in Basil's but the buffet-style food available was very nice indeed. Fruit, cereal and the usual fried fare was on offer. (Bang went lunch anywhere!)
All in all, a great hotel in a very easy to find location. What made this hotel even more special was the friendliness of it's staff. For fear of missing a name or two, i'll refrain from mentioning them all, but from reception to bar, from cleaning to waiting staff, ALL of them were very polite and courteous. (Some larger hotel chains take note....)
Many thanks to all at The Green Hotel for a terrific time!
