“five star plus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Stayed at this hotel in may 2012 and gave 4 stars on expedia.com.
Stayed again in september 2012 and now giving it a 5 star plus.
There was an error with the price of my booking with olotel.com who informed the hotel that it was the superior room and dinner package with a bottle of wine. I had booked B&B only which was confirmed with olotel.com with the booking voucher.
The hotel could not believe the low price that I had payed, but honoured the booking, gave me a superior room and a bottle of wine.
This was fantastic customer service and totally unexpected.
The hotel is excellent, the staff, are a credit to the management, this is evident from the reception staff, jocks bar and breakfast staff., cleaners. The leisure facilities are across the road at the sister hotel, but I have still to use them, had a look around looked very impressive, but speaking to other guests, it seems I have missed out on a good thing.
Kinross is an excellent base for touring, I totally recommend this hotel, you will not be dissapointed.

Room Tip: Superior room, looking into the court yard

Stayed at the Green Hotel for 1 night on 09/09/2012 (with my husband) on a deal for 2 that included Breakfast, 3 course dinner in Basil's restaurant and a bottle of wine in your room. Check in was smooth and the receptionist provided a great overview of where everything was and explained the pool and sauna were located in the sister hotel across the road that was also part of the resort. She also booked us a time for dinner.
We stayed in room 35 which was huge, clean and very comfortable. The room had 2 windows overlooking a lovely courtyard. Like other reviews I agree the rooms and bathrooms are dated/tired but this is an old hotel and not a boutique hotel and everything was very clean. We did use the pool sauna and steam room in the sister hotel.... ( it is literally a 1 minute walk across the road) and spent around 2 hours here relaxing. On return to our room we opened our wine and got ready for dinner. We had a drink in Jock's bar which was busy and was serving pub type grub and then headed to Basil's for our meal.
The service and quality of the food in Basil's was excellent and far exceeded my expectations (both steaks were cooked to perfection). There is also a bar just outside the restaurant and when we finished our meal we enjoyed the rest of our evening here. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxing.
Basil's is also where breakfast is served and there was a good selection of hot and cold buffet items. There was a slight wait for some fresh items to be brought out. The waitress brings tea and coffee and toast to your table.
Overall the staff work hard to ensure you enjoy your stay and this was a nice relaxing overnight stay.

Room Tip: Have a meal in Basil's even if not included in your deal it' a steal at £25.50 per head for...

The green hotel pictures look great, but in reality they are far from that. with that said the hotel has great food and very nice staff. the hotel is a little tired and i desperate need of a lick of paint but for one or two nights its okay. i stayed here on an itison deal and was good value for money, but because of the decor i am glad i did not pay full price. you get to use the lesiure facilities of their other hotel windlestrae just accross the road which includes the pool, gym sauna etc.the basils restaurant has a AA rossette rating and i would agree food tasted great and was presented beautifully to. To the hotel if you read this review please spend time and money on decoration and attention to detail on the cleaning standards. with that said my partner and i had a great stay thankyou.

We were allocated a room on the first floor. It was a huge room with a large bay window opposite the bed and another window opposite the dressing table, both overlooking the courtyard. There was a king sized bed with a bedside table each side, 2 luggage racks and 2 armchairs at the bay window. There was a 32” flat screen TV.

There was a desk and chair and a large dressing table and chair where the tea and coffee making facilities were. There was a double wardrobe with hanging and shelf space, an ironing board with trouser press and an iron and hairdryer.

The bathroom was small and functional with a three piece white suite with shower over the bath and a heated towel rail. The towels were thick and fluffy.

There were stairs to the courtyard just a few feet from the room. The courtyard has several picnic tables and chairs with parasols and a fountain.

The hotel is old, but has lots of character. It is slightly worn in places, but mostly in good order and very clean. Guests can use the leisure facilities and pool at the sister hotel, the Windlestrae, across the road. There are 5 options of places to eat – Basil’s restaurant and Jock’s bar at the Green, Monty’s Pizzeria and Rushes at the Windlestrae and there is the Boathouse Bistro at Loch Leven which is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute away.

There is a beauty salon and a shop onsite. The hotel has free wifi throughout.

We had dinner in Basil’s restaurant which was very good. A 3 course Table D’Hote menu is £25.50 per person with coffee. Sirloin and rib-eye steak is available at a supplement of £2.50 and comes with a sauce.

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast is served 07.00-10.00.

Mira Excel shower was good with good pressure and temperature. Shower gel, shampoo, body lotion and soap were provided.

At breakfast there was a selection of fruit juices, fresh fruit, grapefruit, prunes, cheese, ham and cereals. There was also bacon, link sausage, black pudding, tattie scone, mushrooms, beans, tomato, scrambled and fried eggs. It was all very good.

The hotel is very popular with golfers as there are two golf courses close to the hotel and there were several golfing parties staying.

We just returned from a midweek castle break with the Green Hotel Kinross and enjoyed it very much. The weather was relatively kind although we could not use our ferry ticket to the castle till the second day due to high winds.
We ate at the boathouse the first evening and found the carvery meal supplied with our break very adequate.Drinks were extra, but I am sure that water would have been supplied if we had not gone with a soft drink.
Our room was funnily enough room 18 which is in the traveler's photos and a very deja vu feeling ,although we pulled up the bedclothes! It was very spacious and generally very comfortable with a lovely view over the lawn and garden, although a bit out of date decoration -wise.A four star hotel should have something more upmarket in the bathroom than vinyl sheet floor ,cracked tiles and taps with the hot and cold missing. But I guess there is a recession on.

The public areas of the hotel are quite nicely done but the guest wings are in need of a refurb.
This notwithstanding they seemed quite busy midweek .The onsite shop is a very interesting mix of ladies-wear and unusual gifts.

Our second night meal in Basil's was very delicious. The bottled table water could have been colder ,but I received ice promptly upon request. They didn't take away the extra glasses as someone else mentioned, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of my chicken in any way.We had our coffees served in the adjoining lounge and the whole evening was very pleasant. We went down quite early and were glad as it got quite busy later the staff getting a little harassed it seemed. We found them to be very pleasant young people.

We swam at the Windlestrae pool and found it warm and quiet which was great .We didn't use the other facilities ,just had a cycle in the jacuzzi. All in with the price.

All in all we felt that it was a comfortable good value break but if you are looking for real four star luxury then It won't be here.

Stayed one night and it was enough. Had a dog so was put in one of the doggy rooms. Clean but very tired. At night the noise was too much, squeeking fire doors and staff that seemed to wear hob nail boots.

Food at night was good and breakfast ok as it was a buffet style......

Overall not impressed

Room Tip: I need help with this, dont have 47
