Have been to this Inn for meals on several occasions at the end of 2003 and begining of 2004, the food, service, cleanliness and menu are all to be commended. The staff are all very pleasant and it has improved beyond measure since the new owners took over around end of summer 2003.
After a recent evening meal at this country inn, I thought I would book to take some business clients for lunch couldn't find the details so went onto the net and found no website for hotel, a bit strange? but found this comment about the hotel in google search engine, so a bit more searching went on and hey presto result. I was advised by the new owner a Mrs Brodie that they had recently taken over ownership in the last few months and have improved all aspects of the hotel and were keen to point out that every effort was made to make sure all customers were satisfied before leaving and were already improved on certain aspects of the business and were looking forward to the challenge of running a Scottish country inn(good luck!)and the new website will be currently under development and in place shortly. I would like to say I have visited twice recently and have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone as reached a high expectation level in food, comfort and price and hope that the problems from the previous owners do not put of any future visits as they would be missing out on a absolute gem of a old style country inn situated in a lovely location. I can only say go and see for yourself, BTW I have nothing to do with the hotel or related to any member of the new owners in case anyone is wondering, I guess they are glad I have pointed out a few crucial points about this country inn
We orginally booked a table at this restaurant on our stay in Scotland in January. The food was quite simply appalling and grossly over priced. We found their website at ... and it looked very nice and typical of a Scottish Country Hotel. When we got there we ordered our meal from a decent looking menu. However things got worse as the evening went on. Our starter - deep fried Brie, consisted of two slices of brie cheese in a crumb coating with some limp salad which was brown around the edges. The main course was a game stew. The vegetables were also brown around the edges and the stew was full of fatty meat. The starter cost us £5.00 ($8.00 approx) whilst the main course cost us £13.00 ($22.00 approx). The food was both grossly over priced and very poor quality. The staff were not presented well and one served us food with dirty finger nails. During our meal a black labrador dog was allowed to wander around the restaurant and the owners who had commandeered a table were encouraging the dog to wander round nd obtain scraps from the people eating in the restaurant. The owners - a Martin & Rose Marie were both drinking heavily in the restaurant whilst passing rude comments on the various people at the bar. The female co-owner was very arrogant and rude. During our time in the restaurant, there were a number of people who had been shooting - as they cater for shooting parties. The party were carrying dead birds through the restaurant and into the kitchen whilst we were eating. These shooting people were also covered in grime and the owners did not seem to care.We complained about the experience but we were treated rudely and told to put our complaints in writing by the owner Rose Marie. When we got back to Texas, we went back to their website and it now displays a message saying that they don't pay their bills. This is still being displayed on the front page. Therefore, it is important that any tourists going here be very wary as there is clearly some matters that even the scottish people know about.I would not reccommend this hotel on the basis of hygeine, very poor food and rude owners. The dog running around the restaurant is quite simply off putting and disgusting.
