“VG FOOD AT AN EXCELLENT PRICE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

We ate from the Express Lunch menu which bears a striking resemblance to the standard menu but offers 2 courses for £10 and 3 courses for a tad more.

The quality was not quite excellent (the salad that came with the grilled goat cheese starter was tired and the lamb in the curry had too much fat) but was very good nonetheless, and the large portions mean this is belting value for money. The a la carte menu looks to be decent value too, and they don't charge stupid prices for their wine either.

“Slow Service!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

I ate in the public bar, clean but basic, the food was good, I had the Beef burger. But the service was very slow.
Do ask the bar man to put the lights on downstairs so you can find the loos if you need them.

“Stunning meal for 3 - £30 two courses!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Whilst visiting the Shetland we chanced upon this hotel with a £10 for two course menu. What a delight!! We were served by Ben who was the most attentive waiter, we were presented with a starter and main from what we considered to be an excellent choice of five starters, mains and deserts presented in gourmet style. The food was exquisite, service wonderful in a setting overlooking the bay. Please go you won't by disappointed.

“Another great meal at The Queens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

I have read several of the recent reviews of The Queens & working in Shetland I eat there quite regularly. I have tried most restaurants in the area - and agree with one of the last reviews regarding the decor - but I understand there are plans to re-decorate in the not-too-distant future. I can't fault the food though - I ate there last week and had two choices from the 'Specials' menu. For 'starter' I had Haggis Spring Rolls. I personally had not heard of haggis being served like this and was unsure of what I'd find. But it REALLY works! It came with a cheese dip and salad and was well impressed.
For 'main' I tried the lobster, which again was very good. It comes with the main shell split open and the meat presented nicely within the two halves. It means all the hard work is done, so no messy fingers to worry about. The lobster is topped with a cheese sauce, breadcrumbs and prawns - making it a bit 'thermadore-like'. VERY tasty, and another example of the good use that 'The Queens' makes of local produce - and in particular local sea-food. If you are visiting Lerwick and want to get a great taste of Shetland (without breaking the bank) then you can't go wrong here.
