“Stunning place to stay in Shetland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

We stayed at the Decca in two seperate apartments Scooty Allan and Peerie Swaarbie. There were 8 of us in our party aging from 16 to 77 and we all enjoyed our stay.

The accommodation is situated just outside of Lerwick, you could walk in to town in around 20 minutes but it feels very remote there are so many stunning views across the moorland. Sheep and Shetland Ponies can be found on the doorstep.

The welcome pack we recieved was a fantastic surprise, Valhalla Beer, yummy biccies from Walls Bakery and some Shetland chocolate sheep poo for thr younger members of our party. The bathrooms have Shetland Soap by the sink and in the shower (well worth nipping to the shop on Commercial Street to get some to take home).

Both apartments were very homeley, the kitchens are very well equipped and the bedrooms have very warm duvets and piles of freshly laundered towels available. The bathrooms are accessible - Peerie Swaarbie only has a shower though for those of you who like a long soak after walking the coastline. You will need the kitchen - there aren't many places to eat out.

Steve and Gillian were very welcoming and were good enough to contact us to let us know that one of our party had left behind a pile of clothing, they even drove to meet us to give us the clothes back - what amazing service!

Steve gave us a great top tip for those visiting Shetland - book everything for early in the week so that you have the opportunity to rebook should the weather ruin your plans. During our stay we were unable to get across to Noss as the boat was not running. Our flight to Fair Isle was cancelled because of the weather and we were unable to enjoy a night time trip to Moosa to see the Storm Kestrels and the Simmer Dim.

Some of the highlights of our week were; a tour of Valhalla Brewery on Unst, Eshaness Cliffs, St Ninians Island and a trip to Sumborough Head where you can see the most amazing amount of birds including Puffins! There is literally amazing wildlife everywhere and every time you turn a corner on the islands you are greeted with the kind of view you would drive hours to enjoy elsewhere in the UK.

I have no idea why more people do not visit Shetland but I cannot wait to return.

We are currently staying in Lerwick at Steve and Gillian's Corbie flat which has a family bedroom, one double bedroom, a sitting room with fire, a lovely big kitchen and loo with bath and shower). Located 5 minutes on foot from the Shetland Museum and Archives and just a bit further into the main shopping area of Lerwick, it's an ideal location. It's also close to the Clock Tower Shopping centre with a the fantastic Olive Tree cafe/deli (and a whole food/organic market.) We make it our base when we want to be in this part of Shetland.

We have a 22 month old and Steve and Gillian have ensured we have all we need for him - high chair, plug protectors, bowls, spoons, cup and even a wee potty. (A travel cot too if we required one.) It makes travelling with him so easy.

Steve and Gillian are such considerate and lovely hosts. This is the second time we have stayed with them and both our stays at the Corbie have been ideal. We cannot recommend this location enough and will be back in the future.

Tammie Norie was our unit (The Puffin). Steve and Gillian provided a great accommodation and were very personable hosts. We had everything needed for a comfortable relaxed stay. Location is a mile or so from the town center and is remote enough for great skies, stars, sheep, rabbits, and an occasional pony. And the quiet was especially appreciated. From booking on line to check out and everything in between, this was a first class experience.

Room Tip: All of the units are on their website and well documented.

We agree with all the comments made by other satisfied visitors but do think that a car is advisable. We really appreciated all the facilities in 'Tirrick', especially the rucksack, ordnance survey maps of Shetland (weatherproof style!) and the thermos flask. Steve and Gillian had thought of everything.

From the moment we arrived at the Decca we felt very welcomed. The Tystie apartment finished in 2010 was fantastic. Contemporary designed, tastefully decorated and so very well laid out from Steve with comfortable beds and the great luxury touches like the leather recliner sofa for two, dishwasher, washing machine, micro wave TV/DVD and an i-Pod dock to name a few. Gillian and Steve were more than helpful and friendly. All you could ask for in one place. Really hame fae hame. We loved the environmental friendly way of running the apartments. Well done. We would certainly recommend a stay here. Thank you both.

Room Tip: Spotless clean and excellent service around your stay

Stayed in the Corbie, Warm welcome, Very clean & furniture is of a high standard. Liked the well thought out extras such as the back pack with flask, walking maps etc, kids enjoyed playing with the board games provided. Good location - within walking distance of town centre, local shop just a couple of doors away. Would not hesitate to reccommend.
