My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in November, 2012. The staff and owners (Robert and Giffie) were wonderful. They could not have been more helpful. It's very nicely furnished. The location was very good and in the heart of Kirkwall. The small bar is a great place to have a pint and meet new people. The restaurant was very good too. If you go to the bar you'll meet Balfour the hotel dog who has his own chair there. The breakfast (included in the price) was really good.
If we go back to Kirkwall, there's no doubt where we'll the staying--the West End Hotel!
- Also Known As:
- West End Kirkwall
- Hotel West End
- West End Hotel Kirkwall, Orkney Islands
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- This hotel offers simple comforts but is still in the top two or three places to stay in Kirkwall. In 1824, it was built just outside Kirkwall by a retired sea captain, and became Orkney’s first hospital in 1845. Today, owners Gifford Leslie and Robert Dawson provide a warm welcome and comfortable guest rooms. Each with a shower-only bathroom. The property has been refurbished in the past few years and it now fresh and inviting. Cost-conscious meals are served in a small restaurant and bar. Fully licensed to sell alcohol, the hotel attracts both locals and visitors. The West End Hotel, in many ways, is the ideal blend of old and new. ... more less
