We feel very lucky to have found Straigona.
Mike and Julie were amazing hosts.
The rooms were larger than most places, well maintained, with a binder containing lots of useful information, and little snacks to enjoy. Being a local, Julie is very knowledgable about the area, and Mike is extremely funny, although he tries to cover it up with a straight face.
The food is excellent, and they were the first I've seen that offer dinners, etc., upon request. Oh, and can they bake! If you like an evening snack, this is the place to stay.
We also learned about the annual Ba' event, and the marriage ritual of "blackening".
My wife and I are now talking about our next trip to Scotland, and a return visit to the Orkneys, and Straigona is sure to be part of the plan. We stayed 4 days at Straigona, but it went so fast, we hope to stay longer next time.
