Description: The Reel In 2002 the Wrigley Sisters returned to Orkney to live and set up their business, and in 2004 The Reel was established, allowing them to ‘put something back into’ the community of Orkney.’ "With both lasses having now settled back in Orkney their attention has turned to managing the ‘Reel’ – the sisters’ Centre of Music on Broad Street in Kirkwall. The centre has experienced phenomenal success in the few years it has been open, to the extent that it has recently moved to the building formerly occupied by VisitOrkney, next to St Magnus Cathedral. "Aswell as a being home to many folk & blues sessions and the Orkney Strathspey and Reel, The Reel also holds various classes in many different instruments taught by a wealth of talented teachers. The Reel offers and encourages a fully ‘inclusive’ approach, catering for all members of the community, especially families, and all age groups. The existing aesthetics, atmosphere and management approach fully encourages, supports and positively impacts upon this ethos. The management’s existing attitude and approach to providing a high quality and friendly customer service is also considered exemplary.

“Good food, not overly cheap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Food is good, good selection, close to Cathedral so I suppose price reflects that. Very relaxing atmosphere, very clean, not rushed to leave.

“The Reel Kirkwall Orkney”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

There's a lovely, friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the Reel. Staff are helpful and efficient. Tray bakes are portioned out into individual dishes which the customer can take to add to a tea or coffee or other beverage. Or, if not, just eat a tray bake on its own. The fly cemeteries are really good and, best of all, there is no additional sugar on the pastry top, (the filling is sweet). They are very popular and sell out. There are other tempting items of baking or slices of cake as alternatives if there are no fly cemeteries left when you go to The Reel.

There are a number of snacks on the menu, hot and cold and the soups are pretty good.

This is a centre for ceilidhs and other local entertainment.

Wifi is available.

“Great lunchtime fayre at the Reel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

We enjoyed two lunchtime visits to the Reel - great toastie sandwiches! The Reel is an interesting music venue and music shop and cafe/bar - we missed the evening music sessions but can recommend their lunchtime menu.

“Great Session”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We did not eat there but really enjoyed the Saturday night music session and the beer. It was really great and a wonderful Scottish experience. A woman we saw on the ferry ended up being a guest fiddler the night we were there. Met some great people too.
