Having read recent reviews of The Foveran we had high expectations. Sadly they were not met. This is very decent food but in our experience it was far short of "fantastic" or "one of the best in Scotland". One starter of scallops which had been over-cooked, another of what in effect was a somewhat lukewarm quiche. Then an apparently signature dish, the grandly designated "Foveran" fillet steak which was, well, perfectly decent but nothing more and the other main course - the best offering of the evening - a helping of mutton. How rare to find it. The helping was generous, the meat and vegetables plentiful. Good in its own straightforward way, but not in our view outstanding. Something in the way of culinary flair seemed to be missing. What there was, though, was decent food in generous portions.
