We recently stayed at the hotel for a weekend with family and friends, for a family wedding at Gretna.
There were approx 36 in our party that booked the hotel from the Thurs to Mon...of which the hotel were aware of for at least 6 months in advance.
There were a selection of couples & families, and on arrival over 50% of the couples had single beds that when pushed together to make a double bed were of different heights.
We were charged the normal price of £75.00 per room for this, and the wall paper was peeling at the corners, some pen marks on the walls and to be honest a really basic room for the price with no luxury at all.
We were then told that as we were such a large party we could not eat in the restaurant/bar and had to eat in the breakfast room.
We were then advised of the menu we could choose from which was a reduced menu again due to the size of the party which we had to pre order at 5pm on arrival.
When we were delivered our starters we where all then asked to move to the tables that did not have sugar bowls on them as these were set up for breakfast !!!!!!!!
(Which we did not do, due to them being aware we were coming and were already eating our meal), on advising the waitress we were not happy to move, she then stormed out of the room muttering to herself.
We then spent that first hour of our next morning awaiting our breakfast, we sat for a hr from the point of ordering to the food arriving, which when it did was swimming in grease.
When this was pointed out to the waitress several times the jolly response was "yes the cook is very slow but had been like this since starting 2 years ago......"
The hotel offered a full size snooker table, which was only then available for a limited time due to the food being placed on there for another function that was going on in the hotel or that they needed the snooker tables to iron the table cloths for these functions.
We then had the pleasure of these functions on the Fri and Sat night going on until gone 1am each night. The rooms above the function room (which were lucky enough to be ours) felt as if the disco was taking place in the room itself.......
On having a conversation with the manager in depth on the Sunday morning trying to explain in full our disappointment in the whole weekend we were advised that " that they were the cheapest hotel in the area and we were lucky to get that price for a hotel of that standard"....
We advised that the service on the Friday night meal was that bad we eat out on the Saturday night in a very pleasant small hotel in the town (BlueBell) and the food and service were second to none...
For the presentation of the hotel, which downstairs was very nice and the write up they give it on the website I was very disappointed with the rooms, and the service we received, especially due to the money they were making from us for the whole weekend......
