I stayed one night in November having taken a rate of £40 for a room. The hotel is a converted country manor house built for the Marquis of Queensbury in 1780. The young guy on reception was very friendly and showed me to my first floor room which was a double with en-suite.
I'm not a particular fan of old furniture in my hotel room, and this had it in abundence. In fact you could have opened an antique shop with it.
The carpet was disconcertingly threadbare, and the chintzy duvet cover looked like a remnant from the 1970s. I closed the curtains to find that the main set didn't fit properly, and then feeling the cold, found that an electric wall heater was the sole means of heating the large room. It felt like it had just been switched on, and it took a few hours for the room to become comfortable.
Sadly the bathroom had no heating whatsoever.
I found out at 11-00pm that the hot water isn't too hot at that time of night. (neither is the bathroom).
The electrics look amateurish, with thick grey cable tacked to the skirting boards and old 15amp sockets still evident to the walls.
The atmosphere was pretty soul-less so I went out and drove the mile into Lockerbie centre. This proved pretty pointless as I couldn't find a restaurant to eat in (Weds nights must be early closing). I drove the 14 miles to Dumfries, ate in a nice chinese restaurant and drove back to Lockerbie.
Can't say that I'd book the Manor in future.
