Nice friendly hotel, my only concern was my evening meal of duo of pork, the pork cheek was tiny definitely not £16s worth, but served on a cracked wooden breadboard which took up two thirds of the table width, what's wrong with a reassuringly clean plate.

Gorgeous hotel great location. Only fault is the parking. There is nowhere to pull in outside the hotel, so called reception who told us where to go but forgot to mention the code to get in. Once inside we had a lovely break. Very relaxing.

We loved everything about this hotel & couldn't fault it at all. The staff were all so friendly & welcoming along with the relaxed ambience of the entrance & bar area with a lovely open fire & comfy chairs & sofas. We loved the little touches in the rooms, the little paper packets of what looked like & tasted like home made shortbread with a box of 2 chocolates; the "real" bottles of still & sparkling water & proper coffee with a cafetiere. There were also fluffy towel robes & lovely toiletries in the en suite. The food in the restaurant was delicious along with great friendly service. We had a very comfortable night's sleep (although I was disturbed at 6.30 am by a trolley rattling across the paving at the rear of the hotel, only because I'm a light sleeper, my sister slept through it). It really is in a fabulous location; the heart of Lymington in the High Street, a short walk from the cobbles going down to the quay.

The Angel is set on Lymington's main street with free parking at the rear, a big bonus in this busy town. The main focus seems to be its bar and restaurant, the rooms felt almost like an add-on with a tiny reception desk manned by the (very friendly) bar staff. However the two rooms we saw (we were travelling as a family) were spotlessly clean and well provisioned with complimentary bottled water, ground coffee and tempting sweet snacks. But despite being doubles they were really very small and their bathrooms even more so with no storage or shelf space and nowhere to hang towels to dry overnight, the scaldingly hot towel rail being far too small for its job. This would be no issue for a solo traveller but it was a bit of a challenge for two. So if you like well presented and characterful then this is the place for you, if you like a bit of elbow room then look elsewhere or request their biggest rooms when booking.

The continental breakfast was OK but pretty limited, sadly the hot options were expensive extras.

Overall I wanted to rate the Angel as 'good' - it's certainly better than average but doesn't achieve 'very good' - but that's not a rating option.

Room Tip: Just request a big one!

Had an enjoyable one night stay in the Angel & Blue Pig, after a 2 hour drive, the two chocolates, slab of shortbread and hot chocolate provided in the room went down a treat. Freshly ground cafetieria coffee and tea were also provided in the well appointed room. A comfortable double bed, tv, Wi-Fi, and a large en-suite bathroom with a decent size bath which filled in no time due instant piping hot water. The standard of cleanliness was exemplary, the room ticked all the boxes, and I felt instantly 'at home'. All the staff I came in to contact with were courteous, friendly and helpful. Would definitely use again. A heads up for anyone arriving by car, make sure you read the directions on the hotel website on how to reach the free car park at the rear, otherwise you could find yourself on a magical mystery tour of Lymington.

Room Tip: Try and get first floor in Winter, (second floor was noticeably cooler compared to my sisters first...

My wife and I often visit Lymington on our yacht ,and usually dine at The Ship. Regretably, this time we booked here. On ushering us to our table, we asked for a large bottle of spring water - this came only after a couple of prompts. When it finally arrived, the ice we were offered was deposited on the table in a pint beer glass. Whilst the wine was 25% off for the weekend, we noted that even the higher priced wines had no vintages, so we asked for the ages of a few. The Bearnaise sauce which accompanied my steak was an amateurish, runny Hollandaise instead, so I asked for the Peppercorn. This was a brown sludge which bore no resemblance to its name, with none of the usual crunchy peppercorns. My steak arrived medium to well done, rather than the medium rare ordered, and was placed unhelpfully on top of the supposed "hand cut" fries, rendering the latter soggy. The steak was replaced with grace. When a fresh steak arrived, I had to call a passing waiter for cutlery. Cold greens and now two jugs of brown sludge remained on the table. We negotiated to pay only for our drinks with the helpful waiter, noting that by this time the duty manager had abandoned us and his hapless staff, probably to sort out his vertical hair-do. My wife's pork choice was dull also. A fancy makeover does not a good restaurant make, and we retired to The Ship for excellent cheese and desserts.

Great position to visit the new forest. Lovely rooms, well decorated and furnished. Not massive, but comfortable. Friendly staff, included continental breakfast, good choice of fresh fruits, meats, cheese, cereals. Private car park at rear of hotel.
