We booked to stay one night and was very impressed with the hotel and facilities. The room was clean and spacious. the pool and spa was nice and also the other facilities in the hotel. The only thing that let it down was the high bar prices. We dined in the retaurant. The only comment was that it felt very bare and echoed due to the high ceilings. The staff were excellent and Breakfast was very nice and well presented. All in all a nice hotel and very well maintained.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I was pleased that, overall you enjoyed your stay with us
I note your comments regarding the prices charged in the hotel bar. We do regularly review these against other local outlets, and overall, we feel that they do continue to compare favourably with the opposition
You will no doubt be pleased to hear that the Atrium Restaurant has been earmarked for refurbishment during the early part of 2013, and we hope that you will consider dining there again on your next visit

We were recently on holiday to St Annes and Blackpool. We normally stay in Blackpool but this year we decided to stay in St Annes due to a friends recommendation. The hotel choice was the Dalmey Hotel and apparently it was a lovely hotel and caters for children. So we thought fantastic there will be plenty to do and a nice friendly atmosphere.
On arrival we got into reception which was nice enough we got our room key and when we got into the room it wasn't what I was expecting. My husband's words were "Is this what we are getting for our money". The paper was dated and scuffed, the toilet was seperate from the bathroom and didn't have a wash hand basin so we had to use the toilet and then go into the bathroom to wash our hands. The tv's hardly worked, there wasn't a picture on the wall apart from two silly little things just as you walk in the door . The room on the whole was very dated. Anyway we thought a room is just for sleeping, so we decided to give dinner a go and hopefully make the best of it. Unfortunately that was not the case. The 'Carvery Restaurant' was down past the 'posh bar' and a flight of stairs where it was a self service carvery. There was none of the normal beverages on the table e.g. water, no tea and coffee facilities. The meal its self wasn't that good. With having two children there was fish fingers and something else. They opted for the fish fingers which appeared to be fried and they ended up not eating because of this, I had to ask for tomato sauce as there was none to hand. The service at the carvery was terrible the staff were either too busy talking or it was just a hassle of having to help you. The waitress asked if we wanted a drink which she said comes from the bar upstairs with your meal. So we ordered 3 small colas and a lemonade, how much.....£6.40, that was a shock! So at that point we decided enough was enough and we went through to Blackpool to seek out our normal hotel and see if they had availablity for us for the rest of week, thankfully they did and we enjoyed the rest of our holiday. For £150 a night I expect a lot more for my money. We have previously stayed at the Big Blue and paid this a night and we were so happy with the room and facilities although we were only on a B&B breakfast there. We were staying in a standard family room at £150 per night. But what you have to ask yourself is how much more money do you have pay out to get a premier room and a half decent stay.

Room Tip: Personally I wouldn't advise anyone to go to the room.

I was extremely disappointed to read your comments following your recent stay with us, particularly those relating to the room allocated on this occasion
You will no doubt be pleased to hear that we have now embarked on a refurbishment programme to encompass all rooms. You do not say whether or not you registered your disappointment with Reception following your arrival. I am sure that our Reception team would have tried to allocate an alternative room if one had been available
I have forwarded your comments regarding the Carvery Restaurant to our Restaurant Manager in an effort to remedy the points you raise, thank you for these comments
I am sorry that you chose to check out of the hotel and move to an alternative hotel in Blackpool.
and I can only apologise for the fact that, on this occasion, we did not live up to your expectations. However, I continue to hope that you may return again in the future. The hotel provides unrivalled facilities for families, and the majority of comments we receive are extremely positive

Our party of three (myself, wife and 2 year old) stayed here for two nights over the August bank holiday weekend. Staff were great as always, with special mention for those cleaning or on reception as they are always friendly and helpful.

We really enjoy the facilities in the hotel. The lobby has been really nicely done up in recent years and the upgraded bar area is a great place for a few drinks. The fitness area and swimming pool are also very good. Away from these areas the hotel can look a little tired, however it no doubt suffers from a lot of wear and tear with the amount of people staying. Other guests were generally families at this time of year.

Room, breakfast, etc all up the usual standard. Whilst we always feel the price is high for the hotel, it's probably worth it for the central location and standard.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are ideal

This on the whole is a nice hotel, family friendly, and a great location immediately opposite the promenade at St. Annes on Sea where there is a cinema, a Toby Carvery, and a pier with amusement arcades and a fish and chip shop.

The hotel itself is generally nice, with a nice ambience. It had a lovely little pool, and was certainly geared towards families which was nice as we have a little two year old daughter. Indeed, our daughter enjoyed the hotel, she liked the size of the family room which was enormous - she enjoyed running around it. The beds were also low, ideal for kids like ours where you do not want high beds in case they fall out. The hotel even got us a bed guard to prevent our little one falling out during the night.

There's a nice selection of shops too opposite the rear of the hotel, and St Annes itself we found generally a nice place to stay. We were using St Annes as our base whilst we visited certain attractions in Blackpool such as the illuminations, and Blackpool Zoo.

We would have certainly given this hotel a very good rating but, for us, our room was very very dated. Although clean, the decor appeared to date back many many years which we found to be very lacklustre. I noticed some previous comments where the hotel director says in response to this that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment and that those people should come back to the hotel to experience the lovely, refurbished rooms now done. Admitedly, the hotel does look nice where it has been refurbished, such as in the foyer areas, the bar, the lounge areas, the restaurant areas, and some of the corridors, but we can only comment unfortunately on the room we got (a non-refurbished room) and which we had to stay in which, although very large in size and family friendly, was very basic with very dated decor. Having stayed in many hotels before, including budget rooms such as those offered by Holiday Inn or Premier Inn, we now personally feel more at home in rooms which are more modern with decor which is fairly up to date, even within the last few years or so. We say this because our own house is modern, with fairly up to date decor so this is what we feel at home with.

The evening dinner for us was a little average too. We had a roast lamb dinner on night one. We found the lamb was quite fatty and stringy so we didn't really eat it, although the dinners on the other two evenings were better. The dessert we had, which was the chocolate cake, was a little bit on the harder side for us. So we only found the evening dinner to be average and as this was part of our package (i.e. bed, breakfast, and evening dinner) we found this to be a bit of a let down.

Breakfast though was very good, and tasty (full english breakfast), and we certainly enjoyed that each morning. I would definitely come back on a bed and breakfast basis if I stayed here again.

Finally, we found the car parking arrangements to be very cramped. There was a car park at the front of the hotel which is the best if you can get a space here. The car park underground we found tight, and the car park at the rear of the hotel we found even tighter as we could not get our car into the spaces which were squeezed right into the corner.

All in all, we found the hotel to be good value for money. We would have personally given it a very good rating had our room be up to date, and had the evening dinner been a bit nicer.

I am not sure at the moment whether we would stay here again. We will most likely visit Blackpool lights and the zoo quite often, perhaps as early as next year again, as our little girl loved them. We might stay at the hotel again since it was good value overall although we would need to ensure we got a refurbished room next time. It would also come down to price. We got a special deal so it worked out quite good value for us for our three night stay, but I suppose next time we would have to weigh up the price at the time against other competitor hotels in the area, such as the Premier Inn. We went to Blackpool Zoo and we noticed there was a De Vere hotel right next door to the zoo so we would probably have a look at that next time as well to see what deals they offered too.

On a final note, the staff at this hotel were very nice indeed and very helpful.

All in all we did enjoy our stay at the hotel and the lights at Blackpool were just great!

Thank you for your very constructive comments
It is true that we have embarked on a refurbishment programme to encompass all rooms within the hotel. Unfortunately this is a very slow process owing to the very high occupancy levels the hotel continues to enjoy, especially during the children's holiday periods
I note that you were disappointed with the room allocated during your stay, as this was evidently one which has not yet been updated. I would suggest that, if you decide to stay with us again, you particularly request a refurbished room at the time of booking
I was disappointed to read your comments regarding the standard of food served in the Carvery, and have passed these to our Executive Chef to investigate. The Dalmeny Hotel has always enjoyed an excellent reputation for the quality of food served in our restaurants, so this feedback particularly concerns me
Guests booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast package may also take their evening meal in the Atrium Restaurant, and you may like to consider this option during your next visit
I do hope that you will consider staying with us again, and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Dalmeny

We have stayed at the Dalmeny hotel more times than I care to remember and the hotel offers everything our family needs from a short break.

Without question the staff are all really friendly, helpful and efficient with no request being too much trouble. We always go for the Premier SeaView Rooms which are large and offer fantastic views.

The location is simply perfect - across the road from the beach and 2 minutes walk into Lytham with it's great restaurants (Tiggis is a must) and shops. M&S Food and Costa are also the perfect combination to put together a picnic for days out.

Blackpool is around 5-10 minutes drive away and very easy to get to all the attractions on offer though the hotel offers plenty to keep everyone happy from floats in the pool to the varied evening entertainment which keeps us all smiling!

The Dalmeny is a good fun, lively hotel with plenty going on. It's a great central base to explore the area and you will always be guaranteed a warm welcome.

We've already booked to return again very soon.

stayed at the dalmeny for two nights with two rooms one of our party members is a disabled person and found it difficult to get access to cetain areas of the hotel ie the ballroom which you had to pass through very narrow corridors and awkward doors down inthe lower ground service dept passing kitchens and store rooms also the leisure facilitys the steps down from the ladies changing rooms and the steps down to the steam and sauna rooms are completeley unacessable to a diabled person which spoilt our trip to the hotel apart from that the bedrooms are good and the food is also very good but overpriced for the standard all in all many improvements need to be made if this hotel is to survive a future in a market place were peoples standards are on the up after all its not cheap staying in hotels in the uk

I was very concerned to read your comments regarding disabled access to the Ballroom and Leisure Centre during your recent stay with us. I appreciate that we do have a problem, and whereas, long term we aim to solve this, I can only apologise for the current position
There is access to the Ballroom via the passenger lift down to the Carvery Restaurant, but of course, this then entails a roundabout route either via the Carvery Restaurant, or via the staff passage adjacent to the kitchen.
The Leisure Centre does present a bigger problem, and although our staff are on hand to assist, I realise that this is not an ideal situation.
We are currently working through a comprehensive re-furbishment plan to encompass the majority of areas in the hotel, although, due to the high level of occupancy during holiday periods, this programme has stalled a little throughout the Summer months. Please bear with us as I am sure you will be delighted with the end result
I do hope that you will consider staying with us again in the future, and hope to have the pleasure of meeting you

Our 3rd visit here now, kids love it, large pool, comfortable rooms friendly staff. Free wifi. The manager (Rachel?) was really helpful giving us a change of room as we had a buggy and originally we were up some stairs at the back of the hotel, this made such a difference to our stay. My little boy loved the baby pool each day. Food was good, room cleaned nicely each day.
We have booked to return again soon, hopefully on a Tuesday as this, according to the literature I read in our excellent sized room, is a very special day at the Dalmeny as this is when they have the weeky fire alarm test which I would love to experience, especially as the children's entertainment is only on a weekend during term time.
I dream not only of hearing the dulcit tones of the fire alarm test...ringing out like the glorious Westminster Abbey bells, but of being there during a test evacation, assembling at the fire point (which is at the front car park), meeting the fire wardens, chatting for ages about hazards and risks...I love Health & Safety, it could be the reason I've only been married 4 times but that's another story.
My wife, unfortunately, doesn't share my passion and enthusiasm for Health & Safety but she, like me, enjoys the hospitality and experience the Dalmeny offers, so we do have something in common.
We are due back again for 5 nights 8-13th September, if it were possible to have a tour of the fire exits and and any C.O.S.H cages etc it would really make my day. Many thanks again to the Dalmeny team for a great stay.
