“One nights B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

My wife & I stayed in The Old Plough for one night so that we could visit the Birdfair event at Rutland Water. As we had left it a bit late to book we eventually came across this country village inn by chance. I am glad that fate pointed us here as we found the staff, food, ales and room to be just what we needed. The pity was, as they were fully booked, we couldn't stay for an extra night. The only slight down side was the fact that some of the pillows in the room we had were a bit 'dusty' but I'm sure this will be sorted after this review. All in all, I would recommend a stay here, especially in you like your grub!

I can only follow the other contributions of te revieuws for the Old Plough, it is in one word fantastic. Very hospitable and the room was quiet spacious and very comfortable. In the pub you are spoiled with the choise of beers, ales and wines and the food was very, very wonderful, lots of choises and very tasty. We really enjoyed our stay and would surely recommend a stay.
Allthough if you prefer a stay in a city, look somwhere else, because the Old Plough is very rural, which of course is perfectly quiet.
To put it in plain Dutcht: ''fantastisch en geweldig''.

Popped in on a Monday evening and offered a table in the bar area or the restaurant. Chose the latter which is very nicely set up. We were given the menu plus there were a number of blackboard specials. Printed menu had standard pub fare plus some other mains of interest. The blackboard menu had half a roast duck which turned out to be excellent. Served with vegetables and lots of baby potatoes. A very substantial dish at a very good price. My meal was a steak and ale pie with the richest, most unctuous sauce I've had in a pie. Delicious. The chips were also nicely done.

All up - lovely food with large servings and at a very reasonable price.

Stayed for just 1 night at The Old Plough, would have liked to have stayed for longer, the location is perfect. Braunstone is a pretty village, with some lovely characteristic buildings. The food and hospitality at The Plough is great, good value for money. The room was clean, and there was everything that we needed, good shower, tea and coffee making facilities and a working t.v.The atmosphere in the pub during the evening was very friendly.
We hired bikes from Rutland cycle hire at Whitwell, and was very impressed, Matt was very helpful in sorting out the bikes and explaining the route etc There is a 20% voucher on their website. On our way round the Water we stopped off for a welcome drink at The Horse and Jockey, yet another very friendly pub. Would definitly like to visit this area again, and would certainly stay at The Old Plough.

Stayed here last night. Room was fine for one night if a little tired.Suggestion for owner check tv as we couldn't get it to work and would have liked fully lined curtains to keep the light out in the morning. Ate in the bar - good pub food - breakfast in the conservatory good and well served. Would certainly stay again.

This is a wonderful oldy woldy stereotypical English Inn which does amazingly good home cooked food, and with beautiful character bedrooms bedecked in modern contemporary furnishings. The staff are very friendly and willing to assist if any problems. The breakfast was fresh and well cooked to order. I would thoroughly recommend this inn/bed and breakfast place and its in a wonderful part of the country, not far from Rutland Water

We stayed a night here recently with some friends and can highly recommend The Old Plough - a nice little place, out of the way in Rutland.

The pub itself is great - very cosy, and the staff and other patrons there were all extremely friendly. We arrived quite late and were still got a warm reception.

Yes, the walls are a little thin, but a couple more pints in the pub and you won't even notice.

Breakfast wasn't anything fancy - should a fry up ever be? - but was filling and delicious.

Overall a good experience, and if we're in the hood again, we'll be back.
