Overall we enjoyed a very nice meal here.
Our reservation was for 8 pm and admittedly we arrived bang on time and would have liked a drink in the bar first but were encouraged to go straight to our table as a large party was expected shortly. Perhaps we should have got there a little earlier?
The menu was good with a nice selection of dishes and it seems an effort is made to use local produce where possible. My Pate starter was nice and the mussels we had were described as particularly good. All of the main courses we had were tasty and plentiful although my wifes sirloin steak was a little fatty. The sweets were particulary good and home made and the cheeseboard was excellent.
All dishes are reasonably priced and the house wine, both red and white, are priced sensibly.
The service was good although at times the large party of about twenty golfers were demanding most of the attention.
The only real niggle was at the end of the evening when we had one more drink and coffee in the front lounge area. When we ordered these last drinks we were asked to settle the whole bill as it was apparently getting late (although there was plenty of customers still in the bar area) and we were soon encouraged to drink up by the waitress wiping our table and blowing out the candle before we had finished our drinks. Ten more minutes would have been nice but it felt a bit like "you've had your meal and paid your bill so off you go".
Nevertheless, this is certainly one of the better restaurants in Ross on Wye and would recommend going there.
