“Pleasant --- up to a point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

The location is excellent for the Wye Valley being in the center. Hosts are a very nice couple and the breakfast was very good. We had an evening meal on one night and that was very good also. Just a little disappointed with the housekeeping which was alas non existent. We were only there for three nights but apart from replenishing the tea and coffee nothing was done to the room, bed was unmade, towels not changed and dust that was on furniture and fittings when we arrived was still there when we left.

Thought we had booked accommodation within the pub (The Hope & Anchor) when we paid our non refundable deposit, but we were allocated rooms at Wye Lodge close to the pub. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom however was disgusting. The toilet did not flush properly, it had a broken seat. The whole room was dirty, mouldy and damp with cobwebs everywhere. We had to ask for towels and every morning we had slug trails on the carpet. Do not stay there at any cost!

Parking free for a start which is always a nice bonus, you just leave it in the pubs carpark.Check in at the pub where the friendly staff handed over the keys 2 hours before the official time which again is always nice. She then led us 50 yards up the road to the adjoining lodges which is basically a house split up into small one room flats all on suite .For the money of 60 pounds for 2 people with breakfast we felt is was excellent value and will be coming again soon .

Room Tip: we booked room no1 a great view of the river

We stayed at Wye Lodge last year and after having a great stay with a warm and friendly welcome we decided to go back. The rooms have all been decorated new tele's and soft furnishings. The welcome was still fantastic and have booked to go back again in Sept

Saw the positive reviews on here and expected somewhere basic but clean. Instead was greeted by grotty damp smelling carpets, marked walls with chipped paint, faded old pictures and cobwebs in the bathroom. The wonderful picture window looking over the river had a cracked pane of glass and the window has actually been sealed shut!
Light pulls in bathroom = string tied together. No hand soap provided.
Bed linen had some stains. Towels provided were folded together on bed with the the matt that goes round the loo on top?! Like I really want that (clean though it was) on top of a face towel!
No wardrobe or coat hangers and no one bothered to tell us what time breakfast was served.
Not a very welcoming place - although I would be the first to say the location is stunning I would have rather paid the same and stayed in a travel lodge. I like to support small B&Bs and places with character rather than the big chains but the general grotty unloved couldn't care less atmosphere of this place has made me think again.

We wanted somewhere close to the town of Ross to stay and friends of ours (who are local) suggest we try this place and we are pleased they did.
Not only are the rates great but the accommodation, service and location are too.
Being a stones throw from the river and a childrens park there was always something for the little ones to do. When hubby and I wanted to do things the staff there were always happy to help with suggestions and the pub this place belongs to welcomes kids so we were quite happy to stop for lunch (which was lovely and reccommened by the way).
We had the family room and hired a travel cot for our baby, the room was spacious there was no noise other than that of the bird song in the morning and I was supplied with the hairdryer that I forgot (thanks for that by the way).
If we go back anytime soon to ross then I'll happily stay here with my gang.

The welcome was warm and friendly when we arrived for our break. We was shown to our room which was in a seperate building from the main pub and was pleased to find it warm clean and very comfertable. We enjoyed a couple of very pleasant evenings sitting in the private gardens attached to the rooms. Will hgo back next year..
