“Love this place - frequent visitors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2011

We live in Herefordshire and love this restaurant. Fantastic friendly service and great food. We've been many times and always had a good meal and enjoyable time. We'd thoroughly recommend it.

“Food really bad, service good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2010 via mobile

Just been there for first time.. Not a review writer generally but felt I had to warn others not to waste their money!! Hoisen sauce tasted, well, weird. Crispy seaweed tasted burnt. Crispy chilli beef was terrible - dry and tastless. Oh dear!!

“great food with delightful attentive service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2010

Family of 5, with 3 teenagers aged 19, 16 and 13 had a thoroughly enjoyable evening here, with the attentive service being the highlight. The restaurant has a plain exterior, which also houses a take-away, but the main restaurant is upstairs, decorated simply but with many fascinating quirky ornaments. We ordered a variety of courses ranging from simple ribs to won ton soup, sambai chicken (spicy!) to sweet and sour pork and to round it off, "Fire ball" which i won't tell you the details to - you'll have to find out yourselves! Suffice to say it was all tasty and authentic, and in sufficient quantity. The real highlight though, was the quality of the service, never imposing but always there whenever clearance was required or a top up of Jasmine tea, and always with a smile. The restaurant was busy but the timing of the service never flagged. Prices were reasonable for food of this standard, £5-6 for a starter, £7-8 for a main course.

Overall, we enjoyed the food and the ambience tremendously. Even our 13 year old son said that this was the best Chinese he'd ever had!

“Could do better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2009

It had been recommended by many locals. The decor inside was not particularly conducive to a good restaurant it was if they had just decided to create an eating area without any thought to the customers. The service was first class and plenty of knowledge when recommending dishes. However the standard of food was a little bland and did not come across as an eating experience. Prices were ok but for that the quality should have been better.

“very poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2009

I first went to china boy joe for a takeaway and though the food to be ok so decided to go the following week for lunch, the menu quite good but lacks narrative the favourite word being fried, the food was seriously overseasoned ( very saltly) and items like soft shell crab overcooked, quite pricey, and serious use of cornflour which was not cooked out, service on the other hand is excellent
