First, the coffee here is of the usual high standards, but the shop is not as physically accommodating as most of the Costa locations, being long and skinny. This creates a dark and rather claustrophobic atmosphere, something which I will grant the staff can do nothing about.
The drink service is quick, and the terrace at the back is a great escape during nicer weather. The recent refurbishments have not added to the charm, unfortunately, with large canvas style generic images really tying this to the corporate mainstream rather than individuating this particular cafe. In a town which boasts many independent shops, eateries and snack stops, this seems to go against the grain.
Staff are friendly and well trained, and do seem to go the extra mile to help, but they are let down by the premises and décor.
