“So nice we are going back in November!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We stayed for one night to see if the room (we stayed in the ticketing hall) was as nice as it looked online and wasn't let down at all. Jenny was there to meet us with a smile and to show us around the accommodation. Colin cooks the breakfast in the morning but we wanted total privacy as we both work hard so he filled the fridge up with locally sourced food for the morning for us to cook. Overall we would most definitely recommend to anyone to go and stay there and we were so impressed we are going back at the end of November to soak up the Christmas atmosphere!!

Arriving at the OTRS after a long day riding our bikes, we were greeted by Jenny who showed us around. We couldn't help but be impressed by the views of Tavistock and surrounding area below. We also found the massaging chairs very useful. The OTRS provided sky sports and an array of music for us to choose from, together with high standards of decor. Breakfast was fantastic with our own personal chef coming around to cook for us and to lay the table and clean up after us. Very nice! If you want something special then I highly recommend OTRS.

Despite having booked late for a last-minute trip to see family in Tavistock, we were made extremely welcome by Jenny and Colin. The Ticketing Hall is beautifully decorated and Colin's breakfast was wonderful. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed in the Porter's office in June. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and I would definitely recommend it. The photos on the website give you a good idea what to expect and it doesn't disappoint when you arrive.
The sloping ceilings in the upstairs rooms might be a problem if you're tall but apart from that there's nothing evenly vaguely negative to say about the place.
We really enjoyed our stay and would happily go back.

Booked this on a whim for a birthday treat. The booking process was an easy one, and Jenny was friendly and helpful throughout. We stayed in The Porter's Office. Very clean and well designed and appointed. A nice touch was a birthday card waiting for me in the kitchen, together with the promised wonderful cake in the welcome pack. You will be asked to remove your shoes at all times inside, so remember your own comfy ones as we did. Otherwise hotel type slippers are provided.
We had a wonderful stay with owners close by but invisible at he same time, ideal. There is only a five minute if steep walk to h town centre. A lovely and interesting town. Walk by the river and canal, and visit the market if you can. Dartmoor only a few minutes drive away. Good choice of places to eat, Taylor's very good, but excellent facilities to cook your own as well.
Only point I would mention is that the platform outside dining area could be more attractive. The houses that overlook this area are well documented in past reviews and cannot be helped, but a few tubs/baskets, railway memorabilia etc would be the icing on the cake. Perhaps render and paint the block wall would be great as plants probably don't grow under the canopy anyway.
We have stayed in many self catering cottages, as this is one of the best. We did not have time to visit one planned National Trust garden, so a good excuse to return....

We had a wonderful mini break here mid July. I cannot add much to the wonderful reviews already written about this place, it's pretty much perfection. Colin was only to happy to tell us the history of the place as my husband loves old railways and history, he doesn't seem to tire of endless information. Tavistock is a lovely town, plenty to see and do and if you are feeling energetic, the Drakes Trail cycle ride to Plymouth is fantastic, and very easy to access from the town (42 miles round trip) would we go there again.......YES!
