“Another pleasant stay at this welcoming hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We have enjoyed our stays here before and although we were in the area for a funeral and we were worried about getting caught by the snow, our stay was still enjoyable. Lovely breakfast, as usual - that's why I rate the restaurant as excellent. No evening meals but, as other visitors say takeaways may be ordered. Many thanks to Keith and the staff.

Room Tip: The bedroom this time was a beautiful example of Arts and Craft archtecture (number 10, I think). T...

We spent a comfortable four days in this lovely Arts and Crafts house. The breakfasts were excellent, the rooms clean, comfortable and well appointed. The private car parking was safe and secluded. More should be made of this lovely house with many of it's original features and artifacts.

I stay in many hotels and few manage to get customer service just right. Baron's Court is a rare exception! We were made to feel very welcome, we arrived later than planned but were provided with takeaway menus so we could get some food. We sat in the very relaxing lounge with drinks, and were made to feel very much at home. There was a great choice at breakfast. I liked the little extra touches such as chocolate bars in the room instead of the bog standard ginger nuts! I would highly recommend to anyone staying in Wolverhampton.

We recently stayed at the hotel for tough guy. The hotel was brilliant and the service top notch. Keith was a great host very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The lounge is a great place to relax and have a few beers. Overall I would recommend it as a place to stay.

Whenever we travel up from our home in Devon to visit friends in the West Midlands we always stay at Baron's Court. Originally built for a Victorian industrialist, this is a wonderful building built in the Arts and Crafts Style with many original features still in place. The rooms are warm and comfortable with a very friendly welcome from the staff. The breakfasts are some of the best we've ever had in hotels and overall the feeling is more of staying in a large country house rather than a commercial property. Lots of interesting things to do locally.

Distinct sense of humour failure when I arrived here with 3 business colleagues on a cold snowy evening in mid January 2013 to be told that our booking (two phone calls, no reference number or credit card details taken) did not exist. The 'help' we then received was limited and cursory. Thankfully we found somewhere nearby. The day after our enquiries about the lack of booking were not much better handled. So, make sure they REALLY know you're coming; or book elsewhere.

I am sorry you feel you were inconvenienced, but would like to make a few points. The Hotel Manager clearly remembers the telephone communication in which he advised you of local restaurants and amenities etc. This was an enquiry and was handled as such; no firm booking was made. As with the vast majority of Hotels we do not take a booking without contact details and a credit card number. In fact, our system will not accept a booking without this information. Further, when the party arrived they were handled in a courteous manner, and the Manager advised the party of suitable nearby Hotels and provided their telephone numbers. A member of your party then arranged rooms at one of the hotels suggested from our reception. I think our other reviews testify to the helpfulness of our staff. Perhaps in future you should ensure you have REALLY made a booking.

Yours

This hotel/guest house is very quirky, being an Arts & Crafts house, but with the public rooms decorated with a variety of ornaments and artefacts.

The room we stayed in on the ground floor was very small, just the width of the bed, plus a small bedside cabinet one side and a stool the other. However, it had everything we needed for a short stay. The bathroom was comparatively big, but a bit cold.

Walking through the public rooms after a night out, dimly lit and devoid of people, was a strange experience. The hotel brought to mind a film set for a slightly spooky film. The next morning, though, the dining room was warm and welcoming and we had a very good breakfast.

The Manager and the young man who welcomed us in the Manager's absence were both very pleasant and informative. There is a handy bus stop just round the corner in Upper Villiers Street where the bus takes you into the centre and to the bus station.

I found it very difficult to rate this hotel, as it was certainly not average, was excellent value for money, but not quite to my taste.
