“Glad really I didn't pay more money!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012 via mobile

Stayed 1 night in a single room. Paid £42 an advance saver rate.

Location is good. But was shocked at the rooms. Very very dated and the bathroom wasn't clean.

The single bed was underneath the window. And the curtains were hanging on the bed. Tiny tiny room

I would have complained if I had paid more money. But at £42 it was somewhere to put my head for the night.

Should really be rated as pure budget accommodation. So be ware if your looking for anything 3 star or more as the cleanliness wouldn't come up to 3 star.

We saw rooms for the Britannia Hotel, Wolverhampton through a competitive website for a pretty good price so thought we would try it out for 2 nights. The hotel looks reall grand from the outside, and even through to the lobby, but alarm bells started ringing when we saw a sign on the bannister that requested customers wipe their feet before going upstairs. As we went further into the building, the decor got worse and the carpets got dirtier. We got to the first room we had booked (out of 2 - as there were 3 people in our party) and it was tiny, there was barely enough room for the bed, and the window was high up the wall above the bed - it had the feel of a prison cell. We carried on to the second room which was a lot larger (this was a double room), but yet again the decor seriously needed updating. The wallpaper was all stained, ripped or aged, the TV was at least 15 years old, the fixtures and fittings were filthy, the bathroom floor was wet and sticky, there was quite a large build of dust on top of the wardrobe and there were discarded alcohol bottles. We discovered this when we tried to put our suitcase up high out of the way. Luckily the bed was very comfortable and the sheets were clean. I would not stay at the Britannia again, and the only reason I did not complain at the time was due to the fact that we got a very cheap deal for 2 rooms over 2 nights. I assume that the rooms that we were staying in were usually let out to tradesmen or other thrifty shoppers like us who thought they had got a bargain.

Needed to stay in the West Midlands area for a Saturday night so thought we would give the Britannia a go. It has a good location and although it is getting a bit tired it served its purpose quite adequately.

I wanted somewhere in Wolverhampton over night so I could collect my son from the uni. Normally stay in the Travelodge but fancied some where different. Got a great deal through an agent (Cheaper than their own website ) for £28.00,2 people, Room Only. Brilliant. Only needed the room to sleep and shower in the morning. Beds were really comfy and clean and the bathroom was fine. Nice big towels and complimentary toiletries. We ate in Wetherspoons for dinner and breakfast. Maybe that gives away what sort of person I am. I like good value for money and I got it here.

The hotel is centrally located near the train station, close to the town centre and cheap. That's it for the positive. The bed was small and lumpy, there was mold in the bathroom (which had a broken window) and I was awoken all through the night by the buses turning around at the bus depot (I started wearing earplugs but didn't sleep through the night once during my 4 night stay). I remember when the hotel was completely renovated in the late 80s and I believe still it has the same carpet, fabric, curtains etc. Tired does not begin to describe this shabby hotel.

Hotel is very central, parked on the NCP 6.90 for 24 hrs.

Whilst hotel is a bit tired, I can manage that, as long as its clean and food is good which it was.

Could have done with some spare pillow is our only complaint.
