“Love the place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

Small and nearly always busy, but well worth the effort. Lots of fresh, tasty home cooked food. The cream teas are amazing. Unless you have a massive appitite you might want to share!

“A popular little gem hidden away on the hillside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

This garden tea room is quite amazing.
I met a friend here recently (on one of the nice days this summer!) - for the first time.
The interior is very homely, perhaps slightly tight for space but, more importantly, it extends outside and has then doubled it's space under large square umbrellas.
Dogs obviously are accepted outside and highchairs are available.
Home made cakes including a varied menu and all that you would expect from a little place like this.
All beautifully presented.
Toilets are available within the restaurant of the hotel a few steps away.
Parking is free and ample. The hotel/restaurant car park is on the spot but there is also a free general car park two minutes walk.
The general car park also has the entrance to the Highdown Gardens which again are free and quite breathtaking. There are also public toilets within these Gardens.
The Downs also lead from this car park - and good walking - so another very good reason for making a start/finish or a stop-off at these tea rooms.
Access to this little spot is directly from the A259 and has to be watched for as it's on a one-way dual-carriageway road going towards Worthing.

“An Atmospheric Tea Room.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

The tea room is situated in a very interesting old building. The cakes and scones are huge and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and helpful. The gardens are always interesting to visit no matter what the time of year. Seeing the chalk garden for the first time would be very impressive . I visit these gardens regularly.

“Lovely Tea Room on edge of downs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

A very popular destination just outside Worthing, by Highdown Gardens, adjacent to the Highdown Hotel restaurant on the edge of the South Downs. This serves lovely homemade cakes - recommend the cream tea in particular, proper strawberry jam and cream in separate containers, no plastic rubbish - and light lunches. Cards over £10 only Can sit outside and watch the birds on the bird table after a walk around the beautiful gardens or the Downs. Service is good and friendly. Can get very busy in summer especially as you have to go to counter to order and there is invariably a queue.
