“Our Mums 80th Birthday Weekend to remember”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

We actually visited the hotel 1 week previous, making sure everything was organized for the following weekend, Ashley dealt with us very professionally ,14 family members to book in, all the rooms were just what we wanted and not one person complained, only one complaint as there was no air-con so we took our own fans, breakfast was excellent good prompt service, we also had meals from the bar which suited all.
Staff were really friendly and very helpful accommodating to all our needs so big thankyou to all the staff for helping to make mom's 80th weekend a memorable one

Room Tip: stay at the stable block

We regularly stay here when visiting Yeovil. The rooms are good, and the hotel is well located near to the town centre.

The staff are helpful and friendly and the food is mostly good. The bar area is pleasant with plenty of seating and there is plenty of outside space.

Free WiFi is available in the rooms, but we found it limited in the public areas.

Room Tip: We stopped in the main building

Just back, and never again!
Would not check us in as rooms not ready - reason given "TOO HOT FOR STAF, WE HAD TO GIVE THEM COLD DRINKS". eventually given room at 3.40pm. Room had mould in the shower, broken sink, and the window was stuck open. They receptionist repaired the sink. We were told it is hot, so we should be able to manage with the stuck window! Manger rude and unhelpful - offered a twin room eventually instead of a double or they would phone around for another hotel we would have to pay for! Ate there that evening - poor service due to lack of staff, and the roast tasted as though it had been around a while and warmed up - yorkshire like a brick! We booked on Hotels.com as a four star hotel, but it was a inn - signage and bills states hotel - we asked the manger about this and was told "this is not a four star hotel you know", and she said she knows the booking company shows it as a hotel, but does not know why - perhaps it is because they call themselves a hotel!

It is clear on this occasion that we have failed to provide the level of hospitality that we pride ourselves upon.
Further to your review and letter of complaint sent to our Head Office we have investigated your claims and our Business Development Manager is writing to you.
We do admit that we have faced some challenges during the recent heat wave which have now been rectified. With regards to the hotels.com website then we are looking into why they are showing a 4* Star Hotel rating as, as you state, we are a 4* Inn and we are also part of Old English Inns.

I have stayed here before and we liked it back then but I had an unfortunate accident on the stairs leading to the gents toilet in the basement. I am pleased to say the problem that caused the accident has been well and truly sorted, well done on that one. We booked to stay on 15th, 16th and 17th of July. We had a friendly welcome and a twin room in the stable section of the hotel.
It was very nice, soft comfortable beds and a clean bathroom. We ate at the hotel every night and I must say the food was excellent and good value for money. A wide choice of food for breakfast as well. All the staff were efficient and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately the weather was extremely hot, well up in the 28c. There being no air conditioning or fans in the hotel and in our bedroom we cut our stay short and headed back home on the night of the 16th not wanting to suffer another night of uncomfortable heat in our bedroom. Any other time I would well recommend the Hotel. Maybe when the manager reads this he may consider either air conditioning or fans not only in the main rooms of the hotel but for guest in their bedrooms if this extreme hot weather is to be the trend.

Thank you for your additional review and your return visit.
We are pleased to hear that once again our team were efficient and very friendly.
We are however, sorry to hear that your stay was cut short due it being too hot. The recent heat wave has caused us some issues and we do have a number of fans that were already in rooms. It is regrettable that when temperatures did get high the demand in the area for fans was so high that every store had ran out of them and we were unable to purchase any more. Please do be assured that we are sourcing further fans.
We do look forward to welcoming you back soon.

The manor is a stunning little property, we stayed in the Stables which where beautifully kept and decorated.

We had a tiny room with no aircon and on the hottest day of the year which was unbearable. The staff did bring us a fan quickly and where very polite and efficient.

Breakfast was great very good quality but staffing was a bit of an issue. I was given an empty bottle of brown sauce and didn't get a replacement until i had finished my breakfast.

Id certainly stay again

What a lovely hotel, stayed for a night in July and can't recommend it highly enough. We had a superior room and were delighted with it, the room and en suite were everything we could have wished for.
The food was good, tasty and well presented, breakfast was plentiful with lots of good choices and the staff very friendly and helpful. If you visit, you should try the Hendricks gin and tonic, served in a china teapot with cups and saucers! An experience you shouldn't miss.
We are hoping to return to the hotel in the future as the visit was well worth it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Refurbished three years ago The Manor is located in the Somerset town of Yeovil with easy access via the A303. An Ideal base if visiting Yeovilton, Sherborne. Built in 1735 by local glover and merchant banker John Daniel, the house was known as Hendford House. After he passed away the house was rented out until 1927 when it became The Manor Hotel. A manor it may not be, but it is certainly elegant enough to be one. Its classical facade and porch are of warm, mellow stone, and to its long single wing, also of stone. It has a cheerful modern bar with scrubbed floorboards and pale beechwood furniture and fittings. Today the hotel is a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike. You will be assured of a very warm welcome and great hospitality. Yeovil is the ideal spot from which to explore Hardy's Wessex. Nearby attractions include Glastonbury Abbey. ... more   less
