“A huge thank you for a wonderful Christmas Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Couldn't let the festive season pass without registering our thanks to Derek, Kathryn and all the team for putting on such a wonderful Christmas Day lunch at The Kings Arms. We had all had a wonderful time, with an excellent lunch (thanks Tony and Steve, the venison was superb), and a couple of bottles of a particularly good Malbec with the usual excellent friendly service - it certainly appeared that everyone in the dining room was having a merry festive time thanks to Kathryn's 'little extras' on the tables! Thank you again - and can you put us down for next year!!!

“So wished we'd discovered it earlier in the week”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We were staying in Montacute for 5 nights and were sorry we hadn't eaten at The Kings Arms until our last evening. It's a very nice hotel and I should think the rooms would be of a very high standard if the restaurant is anything to go by.

The welcome was very warm and, although we only wanted a bar meal, we were shown into the restaurant, which was lovely. My husband had a burger and he said it was really delicious; I had the superb smoked salmon salad. I also had a sweet; lemon posset with prunes soaked in Earl Grey with small handmade ginger biscuits. It had been a difficult decision to know which sweet to go for as the honey and fig ice cream sounded wonderful so I asked if I could also have a scoop of that too. The combination was "to die for", absolutely scrumptious - and I wasn't charged any extra for the scoop of ice cream either!

We would certainly eat there again if in the area - the food was excellent and the staff were extremely welcoming and delightful. It was a genuine pleasure to have been served by the young girl who had such a lovely smile.

“Birthday meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

First visit and was a little apprehensive as we had heard it was not great, however we were pleasantly surprised. All our starters were lovely, duck terrine, smoked haddock and prawn tian and tom and mozzarella salad. Main courses very good with just 1 exception, I had the Thai bream which was overcooked, dry and bland. Desserts made up for it Trio of strawberries, lovely and lemon posset and if you don't fancy the earl grey prunes just let them know and they will do a different fruit for you. Waitresses very friendly as we're the bar staff. Would we go again, definitely yes but I would chose a different main.
NB Car park is small so be prepared to park on the road
