“convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2011

we stayed here for one night to visit friends before heading to torquay, easy to find and situated conveniently for shops and pubs etc. rooms were clean and basic, staff freindly and breakfast was good. would definately and probably will book again. only criticism i would have is that it is near to a night club and quite noisy if you stay on a weekend,it didnt bother me too much as a few beers in the bar helped me sleep through it.

We arrived at Lunchtime on the 13/8/11 we hadn't pre booked but they got us a room within minutes with parking, the hosts were extremeley friendly and helpful as were the staff. The room was basic but clean, tidy an had everything we needed for one night, the food was excellent. We would recommend this to anyone and I did say next time we may need to book as this place is looking very popular now and if we had gone 5* don't think would of been any better.

Its really central, town centre is short walk away. The rooms are spotlessly clean,
but rather small for a double, the bathroom we had was again clean, but the fittings were very dated. The staff were lovely so very friendly, food was very good, and the breakfast
was incredible. There is a beer garden ,bit shabby but okay if you are a smoker. My parents
stayed in a "disabled" room. It was much larger than our double, with aids in the bathroom,
and they were more than happy and would stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the annexe next to the main bar this seemed to be the quietest option

Have to register in the pub as the "reception desk" appears to have limited hours.
Bathroom was very moldy
Beds uncomfortable but sheets etc. appeared clean
Sign advertises daily meals in pub - in reality they don't offer meals on Sunday and very few restaurants are open Sunday evening in Yeovil

The staff at this hotel were very pleasant and the food was also very nice, however my sleeping experience was not what I would come to expect as a travelling salesman.
My room was at the front of the hotel, which made it very difficult to sleep as I could constantly hear voices from outside as well as vehicles passing by, this with the noise from the pub and the loud tv made it difficult to sleep, the room was freezing and the outside lighting was very visible within the room. Eventually after the pub closed, thankfully from trip advisor comments, it was a Tuesday and was earlier than a weekend, I managed to sleep, I was woken at 1.15am by another occupant in their bathroom in another room!! The extractor fan was switched on in the other room and kicked the fan on in my bathroom, this kept me awake for a further hour until the person had finished, and I could hear running water, occupant going to the toilet on many occasions during this hour, which was ridiculous.

I have stayed in this hotel many times wth work over the years and ultimately it's more of a B&B than a hotel. The rooms are basic and dated but quite comfortable. The showers are pretty dire. Free wi-fi is a massive bonus, and the food can be exceptional! Avoid the rooms at the front of the hotel like the plague as they are over the bar and people stand outside smoking and hollering til all hours.

When you first drive up to this place you will think you have arrived in Beirut. My friend and I looked at each other and were going to find somewhere else but due to the 2-day cancellation policy we decided to see what we had let ourselves in for!
The location of the hotel is in a very run down area in Yeovil. This explains why there are two “bouncers” on the door when you arrive at the entrance to the pub due to the hotel reception not being manned 24 hours. Some rooms are directly above the pub and others are in an adjacent building. The communal areas and rooms are very tired and in need of decoration and modernisation. Not all the lights were not working in the corridors, hallways or rooms; maybe this was done intentionally so you can’t see how bad the place really is. In my room only 2 out of the five possible lights worked. In my friends room the extractor fan was not working in the bathroom which may explain why the paint is peeling off the walls.
Even after seeing all this why did we stay there? Two reasons, we would lose are pre-paid £50 per room and we were extremely tired and needed to be ready for an early start the next day.
Later we eat out in a local Chinese before returning to the bar in the pub/hotel, first going past the two bouncers on the door. You are then presented with your life in your own hands. We stayed for 3 rounds of drinks observing some of the local undesirables drinking heavily and swearing loudly and openly across the bar. Maybe hotel guest are excluded but it looked to us that unless you had at least 5 tattoos you were not welcome here.
We soon retired and fortunately slept fairly well only being disturbed a couple of times by creaking floorboards in the hallways and doors slamming. Breakfast was pretty average with a full English breakfast buffet.
The best thing about our visit was driving away from the place and we will definitely not be returning here every again. My only saving grace is that I was due to stay there again and managed to cancel my reservations without any charge.
