“Lovely garden, the sort of place you can imagine living”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Lovely garden set out in several small "rooms" to the rear of the house. Only a bit of the house is open as the main part is a holiday cottage. Little restaurant in the stables, which still look like stables, serving excellent cake.
There are several NT houses in the area this can be seen with, we did four in one day!

“Lovely Garden "Rooms"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

The gardens were a bit behind schedule when we visited in early June so make sure that you check the winter/spring weather trend before heading here. However, the lack of flowers allows the visitor to appreciate the garden structure, especially the individual garden "rooms" which are well-designed. One can imagine them in full-bloom in late June/July. The house is interesting only for it's owner's gardening prowess.

“Small but beautifully formed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Having been members of the National Trust for several years we have by now exhausted the N.T. Properties near home and so now look a bit further afield. Today we decided to take advantage of the Summer (which seems to have finally arrived) and go into deepest Somerset to visit Tintinhull gardens; this took just over an hour to reach, most of the trip on the M5 motorway.
I must say that it was not an easy place to find due to an apparent lack of sign-posting but we got there eventually and found the village of Tintinhull to be extremely attractive and quiet with what looked like an interesting pub (which we'll have to explore next time). The property has a car-park in a field almost opposite the house with plenty of room for visitors and a short walk back to the road passed through a level field.
The house only has a few rooms open to the public, I understand the remainder is a holiday let so it's pretty quickly on to the garden which is laid out as a series of "rooms" and is all on the level. These are all very attractively planted and colourful but, as with many N.T. gardens there is a lack of labelling of plants which is a shame since it's not always possible to identify a plant one might like to have at home. There are some large, old trees to add to the charm of the gardens and a productive vegetable plot from which lots of broad-beans were on sale when we visited.
As other reviewers have pointed out, only a short visit is needed to see the whole garden but it is most attractive, there are seats for weary visitors and a courtyard tea-shop for refreshments with outdoor seating.
All in all a "bijou and compact" site but most attractive and worth seeing, possibly in conjunction with a visit to one of the other nearby properties e.g. Montacute or Barrow Court.

“House is very, very disapointing, go on a nice day for the garden.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Nice gardens, but the house is very, very disappointing. Best bit was the swing in the woodland walk and of course the cream tea. Might go back on a nice day, maybe!

“Lovely Garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Such a pretty little garden, all on the level, and easily wandered around in under an hour. Divided into garden 'rooms', with pond in one, kitchen garden another, etc. Plenty of places to sit and gaze at the 'through vistas'. Lovely courtyard cafe too.
