“Stay at the Manor House ... Relax in the Spa.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Location –
The Hotel & Spa is located on the outskirts of Ashford Kent Nr Boughton Lees off the A251
After turning into the grounds you are faced with a long driveway directly to the Spa & Hotel.
The views whilst approaching the manor house are magnificent.

Car Park / Helicopter landing.

We did arrive in Car, would of been nice to arrive in helicopter, but we drove, maybe next time.
The entrance to the hotel is gravelled and plenty of places to park your car whilst visiting for afternoon tea or a hotel guest.

Hotel –

The Hotel itself is the Manor with grand entrance into the courtyard where you arrive starring at the huge wooden doors. When you open the thick old door your senses are delighted by the smell of the log fire burning in the lobby/reception area. Reception desk is quite small and hidden away behind the door to the right.

The fire is the focal point of the entrance and quite rightly so, lovely to warm your hands from the coldish weather. We had booked a room here and thought this is going to be a wonderful experience along with a aromatherapy massage over in the Spa centre (Dreams beauty salon).

The service we received was pleasant and the attentive porter took our case to our room. What I liked about the hotel was the rooms were all named instead of using room numbers. On our way to our room we were shown different parts of the Hotel, i.e. the Bar & tea room, to the left of the wooden stair case was a exit door to take that 2 minute stroll to the Spa centre, with complimentary umbrellas to use if raining.

The relaxed atmosphere of this Hotel didn’t make it feel like a Hotel, more of your own home with a few guests over for Xmas.

Room –

Well what can I say... apart from WOW... huge room with a 4 poster bed with great views across the 1000 acre gardens with the beautiful fountain with the sound of trickling water . We had complimentary Brandy & Sherry & fruit supplied with our room, and very nice this was too.

Our bathroom was huge as well with a great view of the gardens also, even a bidet if you like that sort of thing.

One thing I can say the weather outside was raining and a chill in the air, but the room was hot without the radiators on, so the blankets stayed in the wardrobe for us both. We had a Queen size bed which so comfy and a good night sleep, with no noise around from other guests, just the smell of the fire burning downstairs. The wardrobe was a walk in one with its own window and a light, safe, ironing board & iron. Another great plus for us was we had a TV if needed and free Wi-Fi in our room

Restaurant –

We booked our table in the Manor Hotel restaurant, this is formal dress of an evening and quite rightly so, this adds to the experience of such a lovely setting. The menu was vast of wines, champagnes & A la carte menu. We chose the salmon starter, this was very tasty, Main course the Lamb with red cabbage & small pastry. The lamb was one of the best I have tasted in a long while & finally desert, I had ordered the cheese board & my partner had the Lemon tart. To add to the ambience there was a pianist playing the piano whilst we are eating. Making the whole day and evening very relaxed.

Service –

The service I found was good and not so good, for my experience and reason for this are.
The hotel is showing as a 4 star, yet the surroundings and location make you feel it should be 5 star, therefore you automatically assume the service should be a higher quality than other 4 star Hotels. What I would of liked to of seen would be a few extra touches of service and experience with a more presences of a age range of colleagues in key areas. We sat down in the restaurant next to other couples who were waited upon the same time as us. My partner ordered a wine and the waiter dashed off before I could get my order in, then to return with a bottle and 2 glasses. I explained that I didn't want the wine it was just my partner, but I wasn't asked if I wanted anything. You cannot blame the staff as they were doing as much as can, but I felt it reflected on the management for the lack of training of their colleagues throughout the hotel.

Spa –

Great surrounding with candles and smells in the air of burning oils. I had booked the aromatherapy massage, this was so relaxing and the staff there were pleasant. I would recommend this to anyone male or female who works hard and needs a break from day to day stresses and strains. Afterwards we were allowed to use the pool, spa, steam & sauna or even the gym. So great value for money all round.

Overall –

Positives -
Beautiful old Hotel & magnificent grounds to relax or use the Spa centre.
Nice menus of Wines & Food.
Great afternoon teas
Winter fire to sit around.
Not far from Ashford Kent
Quiet and country retreat.
Lovely big rooms

Cons-
Lack of experience/organisation guidance from the Staff
Signage for reception rooms inside the hotel is needed as staff are non proactive for guests.

Room Tip: Stay in the manor house, for that old touch... pay the extra and ask for a room overlooking the grou...

Our second stay at Eastwell confirmed just how good it is. We were in one of the two bedroom cottages close to the delightful indoor pool and spa. Last time we dined at the Pavilion Restaurant which, whilst OK, was not that special - the main restaurant in the hotel is. The food was beautiful cooked and presented, the atmosphere [with the pianist in the background] was lovely.
It certainly isn't cheap but it offers immaculatre service

Just returned from yet another lovely stay at Eastwell. Have been twice this year so far and already booked to return with my mother in law in February!! Had originally booked for one night then decided to stay for two and was kindly upgraded to the Manor House rather than the Mews. Have stayed at numerous Spa Hotels and don't know any other that offers its guests free tea and coffee facilities All DAY in the Green Room And allows you to use their spa facilities hours before checking in and hours after checking out.!! Nice to see management listened and put loungers in the pool area - however the only criticism I have is that they weren't long enough accommodate my 5'10" frame !! Big thank you to Ken the porter. True Gent who couldn't do enough for the Guests. Husband disappointed that he missed out on the choice of Oysters for dinner - next time we'll say we're with the shooting party !!!

Stayed for one night for a wedding reception, we stayed in one of the muse houses with another couple and the accomidation was very good. There was a nice little kitchen with a fridge and a good longe.
The grounds of the hotel are fantastic and the wedding was held outside which was really nice, the down side of the hotel is the cost of drinks 2 gin and tonics were £17.50! and a glass of beer about a half was £5.00. Lucky most of the drinks were paid for by the wedding.
However the food and breakfast was really good. Also look nice spa facilities but we did not use them.

Delighted that the weather was good enough at this time of year for you to enjoy the wedding in our lovely Italian Secret Garden which is very popular.
Traditionally the majority of Country House Hotel bars serve double measures for spirits.
Glad you enjoyed the Mews Cottages - they are perfect for groups of family and friends on these occasions.

Having arrived and been very impressed by the setting only to be bitterly let down. The bedroom was tired and dated - curtains broken and foam pillows ... not what I expected at £175 per night.
Sadly our room was broken into during our stay - I call into question security - no CCTV!

Eastwell Manor is a listed period property and to meet popular demand many rooms are fitted with four poster beds which by their very nature are either antique or reproduction giving a non modern feel. The room in question has been recently decorated and new soft furnishings installed including a flat screen tv. All bedrooms are also fitted with personal safes for guests use. We do not use feather pillows unless requested since the overwhelming demand is for non allergenic bedding.
The police are investigating this unwelcome burgulary which is regrettable for all parties and we are very sorry that this occurred.

The good news first - the building and the setting are wonderful and the food was excellent.

However, the service and attention to detail was pretty woeful. Nothing major but endless irritations: lightbulb not working in our room; drawer missing from bedside cabinet; information on forthcoming summer events (we were there in September); having to ask for a wine list instead of it being offered; waitress who had to go to the kitchen to find out when we asked what the fish of the day was; being left to pour our own wine; having to ask for coffee three times before it arrived etc etc.

We were also disappointed with the room. It was supposed to be a duluxe but was actually quite small and basic.
