The Hotel & Spa is located on the outskirts of Ashford Kent Nr Boughton Lees off the A251
After turning into the grounds you are faced with a long driveway directly to the Spa & Hotel.
The views whilst approaching the manor house are magnificent.
Car Park / Helicopter landing.
We did arrive in Car, would of been nice to arrive in helicopter, but we drove, maybe next time.
The entrance to the hotel is gravelled and plenty of places to park your car whilst visiting for afternoon tea or a hotel guest.
The Hotel itself is the Manor with grand entrance into the courtyard where you arrive starring at the huge wooden doors. When you open the thick old door your senses are delighted by the smell of the log fire burning in the lobby/reception area. Reception desk is quite small and hidden away behind the door to the right.
The fire is the focal point of the entrance and quite rightly so, lovely to warm your hands from the coldish weather. We had booked a room here and thought this is going to be a wonderful experience along with a aromatherapy massage over in the Spa centre (Dreams beauty salon).
The service we received was pleasant and the attentive porter took our case to our room. What I liked about the hotel was the rooms were all named instead of using room numbers. On our way to our room we were shown different parts of the Hotel, i.e. the Bar & tea room, to the left of the wooden stair case was a exit door to take that 2 minute stroll to the Spa centre, with complimentary umbrellas to use if raining.
The relaxed atmosphere of this Hotel didn’t make it feel like a Hotel, more of your own home with a few guests over for Xmas.
Well what can I say... apart from WOW... huge room with a 4 poster bed with great views across the 1000 acre gardens with the beautiful fountain with the sound of trickling water . We had complimentary Brandy & Sherry & fruit supplied with our room, and very nice this was too.
Our bathroom was huge as well with a great view of the gardens also, even a bidet if you like that sort of thing.
One thing I can say the weather outside was raining and a chill in the air, but the room was hot without the radiators on, so the blankets stayed in the wardrobe for us both. We had a Queen size bed which so comfy and a good night sleep, with no noise around from other guests, just the smell of the fire burning downstairs. The wardrobe was a walk in one with its own window and a light, safe, ironing board & iron. Another great plus for us was we had a TV if needed and free Wi-Fi in our room
We booked our table in the Manor Hotel restaurant, this is formal dress of an evening and quite rightly so, this adds to the experience of such a lovely setting. The menu was vast of wines, champagnes & A la carte menu. We chose the salmon starter, this was very tasty, Main course the Lamb with red cabbage & small pastry. The lamb was one of the best I have tasted in a long while & finally desert, I had ordered the cheese board & my partner had the Lemon tart. To add to the ambience there was a pianist playing the piano whilst we are eating. Making the whole day and evening very relaxed.
The service I found was good and not so good, for my experience and reason for this are.
The hotel is showing as a 4 star, yet the surroundings and location make you feel it should be 5 star, therefore you automatically assume the service should be a higher quality than other 4 star Hotels. What I would of liked to of seen would be a few extra touches of service and experience with a more presences of a age range of colleagues in key areas. We sat down in the restaurant next to other couples who were waited upon the same time as us. My partner ordered a wine and the waiter dashed off before I could get my order in, then to return with a bottle and 2 glasses. I explained that I didn't want the wine it was just my partner, but I wasn't asked if I wanted anything. You cannot blame the staff as they were doing as much as can, but I felt it reflected on the management for the lack of training of their colleagues throughout the hotel.
Great surrounding with candles and smells in the air of burning oils. I had booked the aromatherapy massage, this was so relaxing and the staff there were pleasant. I would recommend this to anyone male or female who works hard and needs a break from day to day stresses and strains. Afterwards we were allowed to use the pool, spa, steam & sauna or even the gym. So great value for money all round.
Beautiful old Hotel & magnificent grounds to relax or use the Spa centre.
Nice menus of Wines & Food.
Great afternoon teas
Winter fire to sit around.
Not far from Ashford Kent
Quiet and country retreat.
Lovely big rooms
Lack of experience/organisation guidance from the Staff
Signage for reception rooms inside the hotel is needed as staff are non proactive for guests.
