From the moment we arrived we were treated like one of the family, which I know a lot of other people have said in their reviews, but it's true!
Tea and homemade cake as soon as we arrived, and a run down of that night's dinner menu to make sure everything was to our liking. We were then shown around the house and to our rooms which were lovely, and what spectacular views, a really secluded spot, yet so close to everything you would want from the Cotswolds. The house is beautiful and the garden was in full bloom. We were invited to have a browse through the vegetable patch too which we did.
Dinner was served around one large table (you could choose to dine alone if preferred) and we got to know the other guests (a couple from Belgium and a couple from Philadelphia). Our hosts Poppy and Graham dined with us too, which was lovely as they could give us tips and guidance for our stay, and it was lovely getting to know everyone else. A much better idea than dining at seperate tables, which now seems so anti-social after this experience!
Poppy couldn't do enough for us, even providing sun cream when we experienced a bit of unexpectedly good weather!!
We would happily recommend Uplands House to anyone and would not even consider staying anywhere else next time we visit the area, which we definitely will.

Finding Uplands House was like learning that I had a long lost English Auntie who took me in, cooked me a great meal and tucked me into bed at night. The home itself is clean, comfy and the art on the walls tells the story of the hosts' lives. The gorgeous gardens burst with color and also supply the fresh berries and vegetables that you'll find in your delish breakfast and dinner. The home is not the star of the show however....Poppy and Graham will take such good care of you, you'll wish you could move in for a season. I felt like the most important guest they'd ever had, and being a solo traveler, some English kindness and affection of this caliber was a highlight of my trip. You'll want to come back every year. Such a wonderful surprise!

We were looking for a quick break away from the stress of every day life, and Uplands House fitted the bill nicely. In our review we will try and do justice to our hosts. From the moment we arrived we were cherished and cosseted by Graham and Poppy who made us feel so welcome, and part of the household. Some B&Bs now offer much more than they used to, where you were shown your room and told when to appear for breakfast, and this must be one of the best. Our room was beautiful, lovely antiques and views, and the linen was crisp and everything was spotlessly clean. There are lots of thoughtful touches in all the rooms – fresh flowers, a digital TV, tea making facilities, rollers and a hair dryer, and alarm clock, make up remover tissues, lovely Duchy Original toiletries, big soft towels and dressing gowns and proper soap.

Tea was served in the garden by the waterfall and rose garden, which is a delight, and already full of blossom and colour. We were given some lovely home made cakes and we discussed the menu for dinner, and the many possibilities for breakfast. We were also shown the marvellous wine list, and made our choices, - Poppy has been collecting wine for years, she is very ,knowledgeable and is a Vigneron of St Emilion. Then we went for a walk round the garden and up to our room with a glass of wine to enjoy in the bath. You get drinks before dinner at Uplands so guests can get to know each other and there were people here from Australia and America. Dinner was superb. We had delicious salad from the garden, with smoked salmon and asparagus, just picked that day, then monk fish wrapped in Parma Ham with some vegetables, and finally a chocolate mousse to die for, with fresh berries. The cheese board was only English cheeses, and it was nice to have a chance to taste them all, with a selection of biscuits and grapes. The conversation was interesting and fun, and Graham is a bit if a tease but very clever and full of odd bits and pieces of information.

Coffee is served by the roaring fire in the drawing room, with chocolates, and we were soon ready for bed. Breakfast can be any time you want, but we had ours at 8.30. First we had real orange juice! How rare this is, and what a treat. Then yougurt and berries, and this was followed by a huge cooked breakfast of our choice. Graham enjoys a good fry up and usually does the cooked breakfasts.

Poppy and Graham really think of everything, and do their best to ensure their visitors’ comforts are catered for. It’s like being at the heart of a very welcoming family. We have been to many B&Bs and hotels over the years, but nothing matches the kindness, good humour and care you find here at Uplands House, where everyone is immediately put at ease, and where there are so many interesting artefacts collected over several generations. Nothing is too much trouble. What you get here is the best of English country house hospitality. We will be back for another escape soon, and we will certainly tell our friends about this Cotswold idyll. When we were on our way, all kinds of suggestions and maps were produced to give us an idea of what was open and what not to miss. Don’t die without coming to Uplands!

We spent a blissfully relaxed weekend at Uplands House for a wedding anniversary treat. Poppy Cooksey is a delightful host, who goes to great lengths to ensure the comfort of her guests. Uplands House is very handy for Stratford Upon Avon where we spent most of our time, but there are so many other interesting things to do right on the doorstep we would have happily stayed much longer.

We had never before been in a B&B, and staying at Up-Lands House with Poppy and Graham was an amazing experience. They made us feel very welcomed.
The place is great and very peaceful. The house is lovingly furnished with items that would be a delight for any collector. The lovely and comfortable Four Poster Bedroom has a beautiful view across the parkland.
We had delicious home-made dinners and wonderful wines in a candlelit dinning room. Poppy and Graham know how to entertain their guests. We also enjoyed very much having breakfast every day with guests from different nationalities and backgrounds, sweetened by Poppy´s marmalades.
From the welcoming glass of champagne to the delicious pimms specially made for us in our last night there, we spent an incredible time at Up-lands House.
Thanks to Poppy and Graham for their hospitality and clever conversation. We hope to see you soon. Sandra and Alfredo.
