We stayed here as it's close by relatives during the Christmas period. We tried to get in a bit earlier than check in but were unable to. However the lady on reception (very friendly, petite, nice lady with blonde hair) was really nice & kind, and very helpful. You know, that really does make a big difference dealing with someone helpful than someone surly. We came back again at 11pm and managed a quick check in. The room & bathroom was clean and the shower was great - lots of hot water & good pressure. Again, excellent friendly receptionist when checking out, can't fault the brilliant customer service at this hotel - 5 *.
Negatives were as follows: The room (room 5) really was TINY, with just enough space either side of the standard double bed to get in and out. If you were obese or bariatric I think you'd struggle. Another thing I noticed was that the windows were wet on the inside, mouldy, old single framed aluminium ones and really need to be replaced with some decent UPVC to keep the sound out and heat in. Outside the main tarmac carpark was particuarly flooded, and two 'overflow' carparks could not be used as they were not tramac or gravel and were completely sodden and muddy.
The best bit though really was the lovely full english breakfast in the Beef Eater restaurant next door, attached to this hotel. The lady who served us was lovely, very friendly (if not mega busy, she was the only person taking orders & serving poor thing) ran through the standard list of cooked breakfast items and asked how many of each we wanted. It came quickly, was piping hot and really did taste of good quality. Proper thick bacon, lovely hash browns, good grilled toms and my husband had proper baked beans...you know the ones! A good brekkie for a bit of a hangie. I've had some horrific cooked breakfasts in my time but this was spot on.
If you're staying here it's ok, slightly noisy, tiny room but does do what it says on the tin and a good place to lay your head. I would heartily recommend the fry up in the morning and second to none execllent customer service by the staff - some top hotels could learn from them and their cheery nature.
Room 5 is VERY SMALL. Good fry up nxt door though.
