“Fantastic service and value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

What a lovely little tucked away treasure. Choosing a mixed platter with warm rosemary bread we induldged on a bountiful helping of delicious cheeses and meats. The fruit and olives added to the variety. The staff were fantastic and very helpful. The local beers were lovely and the choice of wine plentiful. Would definately visit here again. A very friendly and buzzing place.

“a hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

Buxton has many low quality eating places or over priced wine bars. This is the exception. The lunch menu is short. They specialise in oak platters with cheeses and/or meats also a tapas board.Sitting outside as a couple sharing one of each and drinking good wine and real ale was idilic. The hot fresh bread just added to the effect

“First visit”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

At first glance it looked okay but when we were seated the tables need badly replaced as they are badly marked, clean but marked, tried a cider which was very nice and then I ordered the meat platter, very disappointed when it came, some slices of meat stuck on a skewer,a few crisps and some grapes and some bits of celery with a small jar of olives and some onion relish with a lovely stick of bread which was the thing I enjoyed the best, would I go again, not very likely, thought it was overpriced and not very exciting and there was not much taste of any of the meats, find it hard to believe this is ranked 2 in Buxton as there are plenty more places that have far better meals.

“A very pleasant bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

My husband and I visited early one lunchtime and we were the only ones in so can't really comment on atmosphere but the place is quite pleasant in a rustic way and the staff made us feel very welcome, nice people. We tried one of their bottles of speciality cider and it was very good and ordered a meat platter and a cheese platter which were just like a cheese board you would get at any half decent restaurant except obviously one had meat instead of cheese but both came with the same items you would get anywhere else.
In summary, yes we enjoyed the meat, cheese and drinks and yes the staff were lovely but why on earth this is number one is beyond me when there is no actual cooking of food to rate.
Would I go again? Yes I would if I fancied a cheese board in friendly surroundings.

“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

Can only reiterate the recent reviews. Comfortable, busy, great atmosphere. We had the mixed platter after discussions with the staff who are most helpful with wine. Good selection of wine and the mixed platter of various cheeses and meats together with sliced fruit and olives delicious. Well done.
