My partner and I spent 1 night in this hotel on Dec 20th 2012 as part of a Groupon deal. Parking may be a challenge although we did find a spot right in front of the hotel. Checking in was easy and the lady at reception was very pleasant and helpful. Parking in the vicinity of the hotel costs £3 per day. The hotel itself is steeped in history and the old photos in the hallways give the whole place the right sort of atmosphere. We had a room on the 3rd (top) floor which was old but full of character, and was roomy, clean and tidy. We ate lunch in the busy but efficient bar where we 'claimed' our free glass of bubbly and a very kind barman even re-topped our glasses up. We ate the evening meal in one of the function rooms with the other residents as it was Christmas party season and the main restaurant was being used for a party that evening. The function room was fine, and the meal was excellent considering it was from a special Groupon menu. Service was excellent. We had no problem with noise from the party downstairs and had very comfortable and quiet night. Overall a very pleasant one-night break and the location is superb for access to various hikes within the Peak District. We would certainly return to the Old Hall in the future.
Higher floors will be quieter.
