“mega deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

their dinner, bed and breakfast for £75 for 2 at the old hall was truly a mega deal.

buxton is a nice old spar town and there a great walks in the limestone dales and gritstone peaks.

the pavillion gardens opposite the hotel have been fully restored and are a delight

Room Tip: ask for the mega deal

How wonderful to find a warm and welcoming hotel that oozes charm and character and is staffed by such great people who make you feel very special. We are a family of 5 and were looking for a dog friendly hotel in the peak district and a large family room or 2 interconnecting rooms but were offered an even better option of a self contained flat within the hotel but still with the breakfast facility. This was ideal as gave us extra space with the 2 bedrooms and lounge area and kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Some hotels admit dogs and others welcome dogs this hotel made such fuss of our dog that he didnt want to leave!! The dog was allowed in the 2 lounges and the bar but not the restaurant of course but you are able to take meals in the lounge area with the dog. All the staff are exceptionally friendly including the reception staff and the lovely Brenda in the restaurant who served us fabulous cooked breakfasts and generally took great care of us, and Chris in the bar who also made lots of fuss over our Golden Retriever. A really great hotel right in the centre of Buxton we felt as though we had come across a real treasure and would highly recommend to all.

As a wedding location this Hotel provides everything you might require. Excellent function room, top quality food, real ales from the bar and very good wines. The accomodation is clean and well presented. Competitively priced, flexible offerings and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Executive rooms more spacious than standard doubles.

Service, food, and (sorry) ambience, all still great. A lovely welcome to probably the most beautifully located hotel in the UK. If you are in Buxton don't miss it. Even though the staff were busy with a wedding, the service was still superb, and the pre theatre meal was marvellous for taste and value.

Room Tip: Room 30.....a real treat.

Englands oldest Hotel has got plenty of modern features but has'nt lost it's old world charm. We ate at the Restaurant in the evening and had breadfast in the morning and both meals were very good. At night we went to the Opera House (just across the road) and saw a show which was fantasic as good as you'd see in London. If you wish to see an old town steeped in history Buxton is it. Jill Mt. We recently had Sunday lunch at The Old Hall - a party of six. Service is a bit olde worlde but the staff are all excellent and very attentive. The food was first class with a good selection for a Sunday luncheon menu at an all-in price of £18.50 for 3 courses (including coffee and mints). No complaints at all other than the service was a little slow at times due to the fact that they had several large parties on the go at the same time. However, this wasn't a problem as we weren't in a rush.

We shall most definitely be going back in the near future.

Stayed for a couple of nights on business recently. Good location in the middle of Buxton. Close to the railway station with access to several bars and restauarants. Staff very helpful and attentive. Rooms comfortable and nice size. Choice of bar or restaurant to eat. Interesting old lift to save using the stairs. Very friendly would recommend it to anyone staying in the Buxton area.
